I sat and tried to get this printer to install properly for 2 days. Even Epson themselves gave up trying to help me on-line and sent me a link for the bog-standard knowledge base they have on problems with this particulat printer.
I tried every solution in the knowledge base and in the end I just had to give up.
No matter what I did or tried I just kept getting that oh so annoying, now well known error message of "this document failed to print, click here to open print queue".
I am PC literate and have installed all my own printers over the years and have never thrown in the towel before, but all I can say is no wonder this printer is being sold for such an amazing price. It's because a huge amount of buyers just can't get it installed.
I gave it 2 stars, because at least it has a nice control panel and the machine is a good size for smaller spaces.
I have now bought an HP printer that was a complete doddle to install and is also aesthetically pleasing...not to mention a great machine!
the print quality is very good better than expected for a 4 colour cartridge printer.
The wifi is easy to set up i've set it up on 1 pc and 3 laptops and works great.
the only problem I have with it is using a6(105mm-148mm) paper they never come out quite rite especially when printing direct from a sdhd card always seems to crop the photo but a4 and a5 both print very well.
It is noisy and not very fast.
but overall if you want a good wifi printer for under £50 this will do the job.(the price has gone up since this review)
I've had this printer a while now and it really is hit or miss when you install compatible ink, it will say "ink not recognized" either as you install it or when the ink has run out (most of the time there is still half the ink left in the cartridge). as I said earlier it prints well with compatible ink when it does recognize the ink
Now this may be a problem with the ink I buy as its not always the same type of cartridge(but always for the correct model of printer cartridge T1281-284) but my old epson r200 printer (Yes its still working :) ) I have never had a problem with compatible ink in 11 years.
you could use epson ink but at around £40 a set its a bit expensive.
I have been told canon printers work well with compatible ink so I will probably get a canon next time I need to buy a new printer.
As usual, Amazon delivery was very quick arriving well before predicted date and well packaged.
I connected the printer via usb lead (not supplied) applied power and loaded the set up disc.
The software found the printer and installed the drivers, easy. Setting up the wireless part wasn't
so simple but I did eventually get it to work. To date I haven't managed to set my other desktop as a third wireless user.
My laptop, running Win 7, found the printer and automatically installed its own drivers. A much quicker and problem free installation.
The printing, both black and colour, is crisp and of good quality. However, I am not too impressed with a test 6x4 photo that I printed.
Build quality like most of todays printers is mostly plastic but hopefully it will last me a couple of years before the print head clogs up!
All-in-all a good printer for the price so I rate it 4 stars.
I was expecting a bit of hassle setting it up as it was going to be used with a Win XP laptop running
a built-in 801g 54mps network interface and a Win 7 64 bit machine with a USB 2 801n 300mps dongle.
Had no problems whatsoever with either machine, it really was simple to do, took about 10 minutes to
set up on both.
Although I haven't used it much my wife has and thinks it's marvellous and it's a godsend not having
to plug and unplug a USB cable each time you want to use it on a different PC.
I got a set of replacement inks at the same time as the supplied ones usually run out fairly quickly
but I've not had to install them yet.
For what we use it for it's been great so far and to be honest for the price it's really good value.
I'd recommend it if your printing needs are modest.
