Product Description

Product Description

This Hi-Definition photo printer uses Epson Claria Photographic Ink to produce photos that look better, and last longer, than those from the lab. You can print borderless photos up to A4 size, and 10x15 cm photos print in as little as 12 seconds.

The powerful software supplied makes it easy to enhance images and remove imperfections such as red-eye. You can also add a personal touch to your discs by printing directly onto suitable CDs and DVDs. It´s cost-effective too, because with individual inks you only have to replace the colour used.

I bought this to produce art and photography prints as it claims to have excellent print longevity.
The quality of the photo prints is superb, but it also does well for some general office printing. The only complaint is that the first ink cartridges run out quite quickly since they are needed to prime the printer, but thankfully you can buy individual inks of the colours you use most often.

The P50 is a lovely printer and works perfectly but will not accept compatible ink cartidges, it just says unknown manufacture. So if you are thinking of buying the printer you will NOT be able to use compatible ink cartridges. Two sets of Epson Cartridges cost more than the original price of the printer. They almost give away the printer but charge an excessive amount for genuine replacement ink cartridges.

UPDATE 18.05.2011 I have now managed to find a compatible Ink cartridges that will work with my Epson P50 printer. It is a JetTec Multipack E80. I paid £19.99 for a set of six, roughly a third of Epson's price, and my printer is now back in business.

After going through 2 HP Photosmart D5160 printers within 6 months I decided the time had come to give Epson a try and went for a P50. Overall its a superb piece of kit giving excellent results on all types of photo paper and chipped carts are cheap as chips off of ebay. Five stars - you really can't go wrong with this one.

As an avid Epson printer user the Epson P50 has not let me down. After deciding to purchase a slightly cheaper model this time - I was a little dubious to how it would perform against my previous printers by Epson. I am not disappointed. After loading the drivers from the cd supplied, my computer recognised the P50 immediately. The print quality is as good as any other photo printer I have had from Epson and the supporting software that comes with the printer is great. The only downside is that it is a little noisier than previous models, but I can live with that. The 6 cartridge use is a must - allowing you to change only the colour that is required, plus for photo-quality photo printing (as this printer is) 6 individual cartridges is a must. Overall - for a budget priced printer the quality is superb. I have marked the rating down to 4 because of the slight noise the printer gives. Again - I would recommend this printer to anyone and well done to Epson.

This modern and reliable printer is despatched with a full set of the 6 inks needed and is easy to install after a fiddley bit of unpacking! There seems to be tape everywhere but at least it prevents damage in transit.
Installation took only a couple of minutes following the detailed instructions and it was up and running.
The quality of print is excellent and it is fast too. I have previously run an R300 and this is a very worthwhile replacement. Photo quality is easily as good as the R300 and it is very quiet in operation. I would recommend this printer especially to people who are printing photographs.
It shows the remaining levels while it is printing which is helpful too.
I have found that it is easily capable of printing on fairly weighty papers, I have been able to print on card about 200 micron thick or 260 gsm weight.
A very good all-round printer at a reasonable cost.

This is an excellent printer and makes prints as good if not better than Lab quality.
The Epson ink cartridges are expensive, but there are plenty of compatibles about at a fraction of the price.
Highly recommended.

For years I've had a laser printer for bulk printing plus an Epson R200 for photos, CDs and anything else in colour. It was temperamental - difficult to get card or CDs to feed and pernickety with the (compatible) yellow cartridges in particular. When it finally died, after 6 years, I considered a Canon but the P50 was my choice above all because I've got lots of CD label designs in Epson Print CD format. Not many printers can print directly onto printable CDs.

I haven't tried compatible ink cartridges yet with the P50 but I have done a fair bit of colour printing, including borderless photos, heavy card and CDs. It's handled all of them with no fuss, no misfeeds and all my CD designs work nicely in the latest version of the excellent Print CD software. Ink consumption seems OK so far - I've done quite a lot of printing and none of the cartridges is less than two thirds full. The print speed is fine and it's not too noisy. So despite some of the reviews I think Epson have got it right with this one.

Several months on and I'm still on the original cartridges, despite printing on lots of CDs plus a few photo & other colour prints. Maybe I'll even stick with real Epson inks. I've never had any clogged cartridges or paper misfeeds and CDs print perfectly (unlike the old R200 which needed you to nudge the CD tray in at the right time to get started).

I have just purchased the Epson P50 to replace my Epson R300 that gave me excellant service for over 6 years. Epson are the leading company where printers are concerned and I had no doubt that the P50 I chose would not let me down. The quality of photo I expect from my printer has to be high. The P50 ticks all the boxes.
I read on one report that one customer was unable to use his printer because he had the Microsoft XP. I had no trouble connecting to my computer with the Microsoft XP programm.
