OMG, I am lost for words...as soon as CJ said that this book would be written I was beyond excited, although you knew that this situation was totally all kinds of wrong, because of the emotional journey we had been on with Caleb and Livvie you could not help but root for them and you wanted them to get their HEA.
Caleb had been living/existing on the dark side for so long it was really difficult for him to live as a normal human being. He tracked Livvie down and made it his mission to adjust for her, he wanted to give her the life she deserved but with him in it, she wanted that too but it was harder for him. He had used fighting and killing as a coping mechanism and without that in his life he struggled. I think that we forget just how he had been abused in the first place, he too had suffered the fate that was bestowed on Livvie before he came to her rescue, so he was also a Captive In The Dark but at a much earlier age.
You could not help but feel for Caleb in this book, it was a hard adjustment for him and you could see that he was trying, Livvie had made a life for herself and had friends and school and things to do, he had nothing. He was not used to socialising and the way that his friendship with Livvie's friends developed was heart warming, you see the thaw in Caleb and it was emotional to read.
You really developed a sense of protection for Caleb during this book, we get to see his vulnerable side rather than the strong killer that he has been portrayed before. You see him as a victim, a lover, a fighter and a friend but also we get to see not "Caleb" but "James Cole"

This sort of cheapens the series for me, I know it was written due to fan demand so obviously there was a market but it is not a patch on the other two as the excitement and anticipation of the story had come to its natural end.
I would buy work from this author again as she is obviously very talented, but think she should stick to her integrity with quality rather than just churning out for the market
Not sure what the point was.
That said this book was OK, but I did find it a bit slow & boring - nothing seemed to happen. I had no problem with it being written from Caleb's viewpoint. However I think this third book could have been much more interesting. Caleb could have gone in search of his father. Just think of all the scrapes the pair of them could have got up to?! Maybe Caleb may have been persuaded back to the dark side etc., etc.
I still think CJ's books are amazing & will look out for more to read. I just didn't think this book lived up to the previous two books.

It was good to read from Caleb's POV, to read from a sadistic former abuser, an adult who relished in giving pain and fell in love with his charge. Read morePublished 13 months ago by Kindle Customer
Brilliant 3rd book, written from Celab's viewpoint. Once again, written exceptionally well, lots of dark erotic scenes and a great ending to an amazing story. Read morePublished 16 months ago by Kindle Customer
I loved this book even more than the first 2 and never thought that possible.
Gonna miss Caleb and Livvie so much now though.
