I have followed Ryk since his first book and am enjoying the way the plot is filling out as the characters develop. I can usually tell a book is good by the way I start to feel when reading it. His last book had me angry at Nathan's lack of maturity and the problems that caused him and his crew. Twice I had to throw the book down in disgust at his lack of leadership (and then pick it up again to find out what happened). This latest one you begin to see him start stepping up to the plate in terms of his responsibilities. There are some good sub-plots running there too.

I am an avid reader and so am very pleased that Ryk Brown has stepped up the length of his books from 60k to 130-150k as they make for a much more enjoyable read spread over a few evenings. I don't mind waiting the extra couple of months between episodes. Keep them coming.

Excellent series, the first six books have developed the story and characters brilliantly, the original idea of survivors from earth seeding the universe was well handled and Nathan and the crews situation and their adaptation to it seem pretty realistic. The author now has limitless options,do the crew return straight to earth and if so what is the situation there and how are they received with their multinational crew,or are there going to be twists and turn on their journey, thoroughly enjoyed the books so far and awaiting eagerly the next instalment

Well I've just finished this episode in two days and highly delighted that I managed to hold off so long. What a great finish to this part of the saga, it was full of surprises, not at all predictable and a great read to boot. I noticed some typos but nothing significant all in all great stuff.

Couldn't wait to get to the end, now waiting for the next episode. I hope this does have an ending soon though as it seems like the story has run its course apart from returning home of course. Yet another adventure / mishap before they return would seem like they are accident prone.

The writing seems to have improved as the series progresses - a tighter hold on the plot, excellent editing. Once the reader accepts that this is a marathon story with considerable detail then it becomes, for me at least, addictive. But I do wish the author wouldn't use 'mumbles' on so many occasions. Couldn't someone 'mutter', or 'whisper', or 'said to him/her self', or 'murmur', or 'said indistinctly', or 'groaned', or 'said softly' ?
There, I feel better for that !

What's left of the human spaceship has the technology to buzz around like a demented wasp creating mayhem among the enemy. This instalment is well written with good drama and interesting twists to keep the reader guessing as to who is doing what to whom. Looking forward to the next volume!

If you are already reading this series I can only emphasis that your probably enjoying it as much as I have. The twists and turns mean that not everyone gets their own way and it is a struggle to win! Writer I think is a genius.

Apart from a short interlude when the task force was being assembled, and and a lot of techno jargon was being used, this book has been up to Brown's usual standard:fantastic. This book is one big gung-ho sci-fi adventure. It is star trek ++++++.There is always a mystery threaded throughout, and the end is a real cliffhanger.
