Product description

'Dr Fawkes has distilled a lifetime of experience into this easy-to-read book which provides an excellent overview of the subject of energy efficiency and the commercial opportunities that it represents. This is essential reading for those new to the field, especially the new wave of energy efficiency entrepreneurs.'Greg Lavery, CEO Lavery PennellNew energy efficiency related policies and regulations are being promulgated somewhere in the world every day, companies both brand new and long established enter some part of the energy efficiency marketplace while others shut up shop, get acquired, or change business focus just as often, and energy related technology changes more rapidly than at any time in history. So it is extraordinarily valuable to have a stake in the ground to gauge where we are right now as well as a searchlight to show us what's out there. Energy Efficiency by Steven Fawkes does both. With this new book Steven has done an admirable job of covering the enormous universe of factors which impact how well energy is used. Not every reader will need to take in every paragraph, but there is not a single individual interested in the topic of energy efficiency who would not profit by browsing most chapters and devouring some in fine detail. If that were not enough, the references trailing each chapter more than justify this book's purchase price on their own.'Robert Allender, Energy and Carbon Management Advisor, Hong Kong'Dr Fawkes' new book stands out because of its extraordinary breadth, taking in the technologies, economics and politics of energy efficiency in a very thorough analysis. As Dr Fawkes points out, problems for investors in this area include a lack of understanding of the processes involved. If all investors looking to invest in energy efficiency were to read this book first that problem would diminish.'Adam Forsyth. Research Director, Arden Partners, Number 1 Extel Ranked Analyst in New Energy and Clean Technology 2011'This book is a great introduction to the ever more important subject of energy efficiency and covers all the key areas including management, technology, policy and finance. We need to radically and rapidly improve our energy efficiency globally and this work will help practitioners and policy makers to accomplish this, as well as inform people looking at the subject for the first time.'Nick Katz, LEED AP, FRICS, Associate Director, Europe, Honest Buildings'A soaring perspective from arguably the most experienced and committed expert in the field. A must-read for all policy-makers, their advisers, and students of the subject.'Vilnis Vesma, Director and Editor, VESMA.COM'This is a time of real uncertainty concerning energy prices and future energy supplies and the sleeping giant of energy efficiency must awake quickly if we are to avert an energy crisis. So it is important that the UK Government has recognised there isn't enough time or money to build all the new plant we need and that only by increasing energy efficiency and reducing demand can we save the day. This superb book should be read in all the big company boardrooms and more support given to energy specialists to re-double their efforts.'Andrew Bainbridge, Chairman, Major Energy Users' Council'This book provides the most comprehensive review to-date of the barriers and opportunities associated with efficient energy utilisation. Clearly written and erudite, Steven Fawkes addresses every aspect of energy efficiency, including; the huge and vitally important untapped potential offered by effective energy management and the application of technology. He also identifies the barriers, such as the rebound effect and how they can be mitigated and he provides a comprehensive review of innovative energy efficiency financing options. This book is a "must read" for anyone with an interest in energy supply and demand reduction.'David Strong, Chairman, Energy Efficiency Partnership for Buildings and Visiting Professor at
