I have been playing and performing with guitar for 36 years. I have been through folk, ragtime, bit of John Williams, lot of rock lead guitar and most recently an unplugged line-up. I thought I knew my way around the instrument. I thought the big guitar legends were unrivalled in their virtuosity and insight.
How wrong could I have been? All that time the god of guitar has been working his bits off endlessly to achieve, in comparison, a relatively modest level of fame. (Check out how few of his albums are stocked in the UK)
I have never seen someone with such in-depth understanding of his craft and tools. Such creativity in rhythm, structure, movement, interpretation; where do I stop?
Still awake? This is a beautifully crafted work with a seemingly endless variety of music. 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' literally brought tears to my eyes!
Had I not just seen him in concert (hence the purchase) I would not have believed one person could make all those sounds.
On stage is where the real Tommy is found, with a great sense of showmanship, a wicked wit (musically and verbally) and a talent the like of which I could never even conceive possible. AND he's such a nice, regular guy!
Buy this album, visit his website and SEE HIM IN CONCERT - he tours endlessly. Watch out for his new album.

It would be mean-spirited to give this CD anything other than 5 stars. As albums of modern acoustic guitar music go, this has to rate amongst the best. TE's styles are wide-ranging from Chet Atkin's purity - to - finger-dazzling runs that would make most mortals' eyes water - to - dirty blues - to - melodic simplicity - to - smooth jazz. His version of John D. Loudermilk's 'Windy and Warm' is wonderful. He shifts the timing slightly, stays faithful to the original melody, but totally transforms it. Other tracks are occasionally reminiscent of guitarists such as Michael Hedges, Adrian Legg or Martin Simpson, but they're still uniquely Emmanuel.
If you're an aspiring guitar player, be sure to listen to this album ... but I would suggest that you practice your scales and get those fingers fully warmed up before you think about trying anything like you'll hear on this album! One nice touch, by the way, is that album titles also contain a brief reference to the make of guitar that Tommy used. It would have been even nicer if he had done what Steve Howe did, and shown illustrations of them. But you can't have everything.
If you enjoy varied acoustic guitar playing, then this is an album to check out ...... but when oh when are we going to see another electric album as brilliant, original and fiery as 'The Journey'?
Finally, if you live in the UK, keep an eye open for Tommy on tour - he often comes here and gives concerts all over the country.

If you liked his first album 'Only' you'll love this. 'Endless Road' has to be his best album to date, pure acoustic pleasure, and with 17 tracks real value for money. The title track 'Endless Road' is a warm flowing song with nice variation, the second 'Tall Fiddler' is a extremely fast and highly technical piece, his songs go on and on, and just get better and better the more I hear them. The rendition of 'Mona Lisa' and 'Over the Rainbow' are classic's, the harmonics and depth of sound from one guitar is pure magic. But the one song which surprised me was 'I Still Can't Say Goodbye'. Tommy will be the first to say he isn't the most talented singer, but nevertheless the duet with Lizzy Watkins is a song from the heart. Its the type of song which brings tears to your eyes, and a smile on your face, its just wonderful. In his live shows he dedicates this song to his mother, who had a big influence in Tommy career.
This album is a must for anyone who likes music, a real classic from the one and only 'Certified Guitar Player', a title given to only the very best guitarists.

If you are big into virtuoso acoustic guitar playing this is essential. Better than his previous solo effort 'Only' this has a good mix of the mellow and downright fretburning fingerpicking. It's might not be for non-aficionados of acoustic guitar as there are mostly no vocals and limited accompaniment. It's fair to say TE is one of the top half dozen steel string acoustic players out there at the moment..anywhere in the world. Oh yes, and if he's gigging anywhere near you, live he's a must see. Very droll and entertaining with it.

Exeptional again, a brilliant follow up to the previous solo recording '0nly'. Tommy displays his truely individual style and an almost inhuman grasp of the acoustic guitar. Theres also the opourtunity to hear some very heart felt performances dedicated to his mother, father and Chet Atkins, as well as showing he can sing too. All though a mixture of fast and slow tunes with various influences.

When i got this i had strong expectations after listening to 'Only', but i'm happy to say its new material with a few arrangements of traditional and jazz tunes and realy does deliver. One thing about his playing is that it is realy quite mesmorising to listen to creating music which is realy difficult to put into any style.

He is huge in Australia but although he is always touring around the world and in the U K, his recordings are still quite difficult to get hold of. Any fan of solo guitar music in particular should get a copy of this and its well worth looking for 'Only' which although also performed on one guitar it's a truely captivating performance.

A brilliant example of solo guitar playing in a emotive, creative and mesmorising musical experience and highly recomended.
