I have had the pleasure of reading several Frank Tayell's novels, and this is a really good one in the Strike a Match series. I like Tayell's style: succinct but carrying a lot of fun plot along a path with both good and evil characters which readers really can relate to easily. Protagonist young Constable Ruth Deering finds herself thrown right into a deadly plan she must investigate to their usually fatal conclusions in post-apocalyptic Britain in a world where most people have been killed due to nuclear destruction. There are no zombies, no supernaturals, just a few power hungry and wealthy people seeking to control and dominate what's left of Britain and Europe. With the direction of Captain Mitchell and help from a couple of others, Constable Deering learns more about her past and her own character along the way during criminal investigations, assassinations, war, and attempts on her life. It's really a fun read.
