The End of Gender: Debunking the Myths About Sex and Identity in Our Society Hardcover – 4 Aug. 2020
Is our gender something we’re born with, or are we conditioned by society? In The End of Gender, neuroscientist and sexologist Dr. Debra Soh uses a research-based approach to address this hot-button topic, unmasking popular misconceptions about the nature vs. nurture debate and exploring what it means to be a woman or a man in today’s society.
Both scientific and objective, and drawing on original research and carefully conducted interviews, Soh tackles a wide range of issues, such as gender-neutral parenting, gender dysphoric children, and the neuroscience of being transgender. She debates today’s accepted notion that gender is a social construct and a spectrum, and challenges the idea that there is no difference between how male and female brains operate.
The End of Gender is a conversation-starting work that will challenge what you thought you knew about gender, identity, and everything in between. Timely, informative, and provocative, it will arm you with the facts you need to come to your own conclusions about gender identity and its place in the world today.

It confirms that gender is not a social construct but is an aspect of biological sex. It confirms there are only two genders: female and male. It confirms that a small number of people have atypical bodies but these do not create new sex or gender categories.
It shows how the world of science has been hijacked by gender activists in the greatest scandal of the century. It demonstrates the fragility of science and the weaknesses of our institutions in defending science. It demonstrates how social media has been used to trash the reputations of our best scientists and medics.
Chapter 3 will introduce you to a confusing array of current gender terminology. Chapter 7 will clear your mind of all the rubbish that's been put there by years of misinformation and obfuscation.
The book's index is comprehensive, making it very useful for defining the array of terms used in the book.
However, more valuable is that it offers plausible insights into how leftist ideologies (such as my own) can come across within contentious issues. Despite seemingly being polar opposites in terms of our views on gender, I would urge people to read this book. Very well written.
The media want to label the author as transphobic, but anyone who reads the book will see that she is very sympathetic to their plight, but extremely critical of the misrepresentation of the issues that we see in the media every day.
The book would have benefitted from a little more editing, as it does ramble a bit, but it still addresses the questions every parent should be asking.
There are several things I disagree with, but overall a fair picture of the issues and how to have a reasoned debate with any activists you may have the misfortune to meet.
I would recommend this book to anyone who understands free speech needs balance in debate to benefit society.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, Informative
5.0 out of 5 stars A good read about the myths of gender
I don't agree with everything that was discussed with Debra Soh. Especially on Chapter 7, I don't agree that women shouldn't behave like men in sex and dating. I think it would be nice to have broader scope on different dynamic in relationships. Especially when women are entering high ranking position, I've noticed a change in power dynamics in relationship where the wife is the bread winner and the husband is a full time 'stay at home dad.' The husband's livelihood is dependent on his wife's income. The couple is still married and they had children together. I would like to see more research that goes out of boundaries of conventional gender norms in relationships where the power dynamic has shifted from the husband to the wife.
Otherwise, the book was worth the read for its insights and clarity.
