the first chapter sets up the back story, but to be honest is a bit hard going, and not in keeping with the rest of the book. definitely worth persevering though.

there are some great characters here, from sinister russians to too charming businessmen, you really dont know who should be trusted. well written and fast paced i will be looking out for other books by this author.

Having read the hardback version I can thoroughly recommend this book. The author takes us through a fast moving, complex, globe trotting tale and brings to life the historical context, a wide range of interesting and superbly described locations, as well as diverse, well drawn personalities. I loved the way he used words and phrases, drew in the reader and created an engaging and human hero who's exploits I would be keen to follow.

Edwin Alexander's 'End Game' is a complex, wonderfully entertaining narrative about the search for a medieval icon which links people and places with the complexity of a game of chess. It's a blistering read from start to finish. Read this book.

An entertaining story of looting, death and retribution set in Paraguay, the United States and Estonia - gripping and entertaining at the same time.
