This is a beautiful book, packed absolutely full with lovely stories, and great illustrations. I bought it as a resource for reading stories out loud - for children of all ages. it is perfect for that, and I and many others will enjoy the stories for a long time!

The publisher has done an amazing job with this collection of folk tales and fairy stories. Physically, the book itself is a work of art - it comes with a ribbon bookmark, the page edges are gilt, the bookcover is cloth with a beautiful dustcover, and the endpapers are marbled. The book is full of illustrations from classic illustrators (Howard Pyle, Arthur Rackham and the like). The print-type is pleasing to the eye and gives one the feeling of reading a book from the old days. The book is pleasantly heavy, I would say.

The book is full of stories of all lengths. My daughter and I take turns reading a story to each other every evening, usually 1-3 pages long, and we have a great time with this treasure trove of a book. And it seems every story has at least one illustration - a nice deal for a 700-page book !

Finally, I was delighted to discover that this book is but one in a series from CRW Publishing. Do you know that saying that 'they don't make them like they used to' ?
Well, in this case they're wrong.

I bought this as a birthday present for a friend's son. I remembered the big book of fairy tales that I had as a child & how much I loved it. This book is beautiful: the cover is lovely and the edges of the pages are gold coloured. It has a large number of stories inside and some really lovely illustrations. I would say that this is a great book to read bedtime stories from for younger children - they would need more advanced reading skills to read it themselves. It is also worth noting that although the illustrations inside are lovely they are also in black and white.

If you want a lovely book to treasure for years to come and use for story time with the kids this book is excellent. If you want something to encourage young children to read from themselves then this is not for you.
