Another fantastic book by Kitty Meals.
I'd love to no where she gets her ideas for her books.
Millie has a tough life, after her mum dies, she's got to do all the house hold chores, and when her and her brother find out why there mum did what she did, her brow leaves home as well.
Her father is dispicable, the scrum of the earth, and what he goes on to do you won't believe.
Millie has a breakdown, but you could say it's the start of better things to come!

I couldn't put this book down. Kitty's books have taught me so much about how life was for women back in the forties and fifties. They had such a rough time of it. Although the endings are sometimes cut short and slightly predictable, I love Kitty's books

I love all Kitty Neale books. She is an awesome writer and you really get into the story really early on. Hope she continues to write many more books. I most certainly will be on the lookout for other books when they appear.

To me this book dealt with serious issues in a rather 'hollywood' style. Eeverything was always going to turn out alright, the couple would always get together and the wrong doing would be forgiven.
However I would say it was still a satisfying read, it won't stay with me forever but it entertained me for a few days.
Worth a read if you fancy something interesting but not too taxing.

I finished this book in about 24 hours, which is unusual for me. Being from Battersea I immediately found the subject of this book interesting and seeing as it was set 20 years before I came to live in the borough I was curious to see how it was portrayed, although some bits of it are still the same. This book tells the story of a young girl who is almost born to suffer and goes through hell and back before escaping the bleak world she inhabits.

There are a lot of characters and you have to be on the ball to keep up with who is who but the dialogue is so natural and the people so real that it's almost like reading a memoir than a novel.

I can't recommend The Empty Hearth enough and if you like a thumping good read with lots of ups and downs and tears and laughter, you will love this.

I have read all Kitty Neale books & they have all been really lovely. Each time I finish one I can never imagine enjoying another as much. But I always do. This one was my favourite. I loved it. If you want a good read with a good storyline you will love this.
