‘A brilliant story – I wish I’d written it. A novel of vivid characters, stunning action and unrelenting pace. It really is a terrific read.’
‘The descriptions of combat in the circus, slaves in revolt, skirmishes in Greece, amputations and street fighting are all convincing.’

I loved all of these. They're very pacy, and given the turbulent time they're set in they could hardly fail to be exciting. Also stimulated me to look up a bit of the history of the period covered in the books, and I was surprised at how faithful it was. The way he dramatises the main characters really brings them to life. I would recommend these to anyone.
For anyone interested in learning about the death of the Roman republic, this is a great place to start.
Yes, there are historical inaccuracies and history is condensed in places, but most of this is explained at the end of each book. It's rip-snorting action from start to finish.
And I think there will be many who want to read more about Julius Caesar when they finish.
