Emotionalism is the defining, emotionally-arresting statement of the new indie alternative folk movement. Melding rock, punk, jazz and gospel, The Avetts are reinventing roots music. Theyve become one of the hottest grassroots touring bands in recent memory with shows that have become stuff of legend.

There is a cohesiveness to this album that's missing from some of the others. It has that Avetts' jagged edge but at the same time shows that their song writing skills have gone up a gear. "The Weight of Lies" which is one of their greatest songs appears like a traditional "let me give you some advice" country ballad but has so much depth you could dive into it, as the Brothers counsel that "I'm not sure I bought those words/When I was young I knew most everything/But these words have never meant so much to anyone/as they now mean to me". "Pretty girl from Chile" starts out as gorgeous Gram Parsons style country lament and ends as a latin fuelled, hand-clapping, foot-stomper.Read more ›
All I can say is its amazing. Fantastic lyrics, harmonies - have since bought the rest of the back catalogue. My mates are bored hearing me raving about this band................

This was a recommendation, but was a complete disappointment. Its not bluegrass and has a very amateurish feel. The lyrics are naïve.Published on 24 July 2013 by pauljok
