There will always be a great pulling power to small, mostly forgotten movies starring now well known actors and (more frequently) actresses getting naked and naughty 'before they were famous.' In which case the distributors of this little picture must be rubbing their hands with glee, for they have not one but two popular stars getting down and dirty, back in 1994: Martin Kemp and (most significantly) Alyssa Milano.
Anyone approaching Embrace Of The Vampire should be clear on one thing straight away: this is not horror. This is that curious model of glossy, well-groomed softcore that would like to be known as 'Erotica' but is now more commonly known on these shores as 'Channel 5 Porn.' Given that the cover of this edition bears a recommendation from that cornerstone of British journalism, The Sport, its quite clear to whom the distributors expect this disc to appeal. And I won't lie: I'm a big fan of Charmed, and my main impetus behind buying this was to see the fabulous Ms Milano in states of undress. And, as such, this film was in no way a disappointment. Voyeuristic naughty boys like myself should be more than satisfied by the ammount of Alyssa on display here.
Interesting to note, however, that while this is most likely to be of interest to horny men, the writers and director of this film are in fact women. Clearly this is intended to be a provocative exploration into burgeoning female sexuality, as Alyssa's Catholic virgin falls deeper into desire under the dreamlike influence of Kemp's Vampire, who believes she is his lost love from his mortal days reincarnated. But it's no surprise that the scenarios and character developments are more than a little on the unconvincing side.

This is a cheaply made minor masterpiece. Martin Kemp and Alyssa Milano have a terrific chemistry as depravity and innocence respectively. The plot hums along by using the hoary old device of a deadline by which the vampire must seduce the virgin or face extinction. Our hero even manages to turn into Jennifer Tilly as he seeks to dispose of Milano's wimpy sex-starved boyfriend! It's all great fun right up to the last two minutes of the movie when vitue prevails after a last second fit of conscience - the movie equivalent of "Then I woke up and it was all a dream!"

This is a copy of my review for the Korean disc, which is the unedited version.
This 1995 erotic vampire suspense thriller features Alyssa Milano as the chaste virginal Charlotte. The film opens with a lover [Martin kemp] being attacked/seduced [he doesn’t struggle much!] by three vampire nymphs and himself becoming a vampire, immediately his lover departs. He then searches for his lost love and skip forward a few centuries is in a college where he meets Charlotte who he believes to be her reincarnation. He has 3 days in which to seduce her, or he will die. The problem is, Charlotte has a boyfriend. So will love or lust win out at the end of the three days.
The two main leads are superb in their roles and there is chemistry between them, Kemp screws his face rat-like as he bites his victims, Milano excels as the innocent yet provocative convent girl with ‘wicked’ thoughts. With lesser actors, this would easily be late night soft core porn, but they elevate this basic plot above it all as ‘the vampire’ enters the minds of Charlotte and her boyfriend, casting doubt and weaving webs of seduction everywhere.
The strange thing is, my disc went straight into the film, the main menu only showed after the end credits had completed! There are plenty of erotic scenes, but this gets by without the need to resort to full frontal nudity and is all the better for it. There are a few goofs and gaffs, the bodies pile up but no-one even mentions them, and the back story [3 days or die?] is never adequately explained. It’s no Oscar winner, but is entertaining in a late night manner and if you like Kemp or Milano [or both] you’re not going to be bored. Definitely one for Adults only!
