About the Artist
50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong (Elvis' Gold Records - Volume 2) was originally released back in 1959. In the two years that Elvis had by then spent in the army, the world of Rock'n'Roll had changed dramatically; Buddy Holly and Richie Valens had died in a plane crash, Little Richard had quit, Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry had fallen from grace and Jimi Hendrix bought his first electric guitar. This album was meant as a pacifier for Elvis' fans in the two year hiatus he would be unable to record any new songs. It worked; after Elvis' return he was more popular than ever, which proved that all his fans had, indeed, been right all along. This release also contains a number of songs Elvis recorded for his Christmas album and a number of in-demand movie songs, totaling ten extra songs on this Music On Vinyl 180 grams audiophile vinyl.

Presley was at his peak with this material, and he gives some of the greatest rock performances of all time. He and and the band were simply at one with each other; no prima donna's, no guitarist trying to upstage anyone - just joyful, skillful, trail-blazing rock 'n roll.
Shame then about the sound on this release. I bought it in hopes that there would be a sound quality improvement over the 'Complete 60's Masters' issued in the late 90's. There isn't. Although nearly 10 years on, with major advances in sound processing taking place over that time, this new release is blighted throughout by the same bland and utterly unexciting sound. Basically it's been over-processed; if you're a techno, you'll be able hear the processing in the way the bass and high treble behave. If you're a music fan, you'll just be left wondering what all the fuss was ever about.
Preferable option is to lay your hands on the first CD version of Golden Records Volume 2 released circa 1988. The sound isn't perfect, but it retains some of the original dynamics and excitement. As as to this current release on the FTD label, FTD in this context can only mean For The Desparate.

While it is not nearly has good as his first Gold Records album, this is still a solid collection. It includes two number 1 singles (Don't and A Big Hunk O'Love), six top ten songs (I Need Your Love Tonight, I Got Stung, One Night, I Beg Of You, A Fool Such As I, and Wear My Ring Around Your Neck which also hit number 1 on the R & B singles chart), and two other top 30 hits (My Wish Came True and Doncha' Think It's Time). This release has become better known for its ostentatious title (50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong) and cover which has been copied numerous times.
This release has numerous bonus track and alternate takes not found on the original release. While this is a nice set, it is kind of pricey.
