Isabel Crisp spends all of the year at the St Bartholomew’s School for girls her uncle Lord Thornton pays her fees. However early one morning her aunt Lady Lilith Thornton arrives to collect her, as they leave the school a man tries to grab Isabel luckily Lilith’s companion Gabe Duke of Lynford pushes the assailant. They take Isabel to the home of Viscount Jason Ellis, a fellow member of the Brotherhood of the Sword he agrees to keep her safe not fully knowing what that will entail. Once Isabel Crisp learns the truth of her identity, that she’s the last remaining member of the royal family from the island nation of Saldania, her world is tipped upside down. A plot to usurp the throne from Victoria comes to light. Isabel realizes rather quickly that if she were already married the men would not succeed with their plan. Jason reluctantly agrees to marry her, but in name only as he’s bound to leave the title to his brother’s son, the rightful heir. Jason learned years ago that he’s actually the son of the estate’s horse master.
This is the first book I’ve read by the author & I enjoyed it. There are well developed characters who are likeable. The plot is well paced & keeps you turning the pages even though the plot is implausible but it’s fiction so I was able to go with the plot. The one thing I did find difficult was being able to travel from London to Gretna Green in under two days. The attraction between Jason & Isabel is there from the start & she doesn’t understand why he distances himself from her. Jason has been decided on his course but eventually his mother & brother make him realise what that course should be. I did find the ending a little rushed & would have liked the denouement to have been longer & more detailed. This is the third in the series & could well be read as a stand alone book. I’ll certainly be reading more from the author
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

However his idea for safety and hers seem to be at opposite ends of the spectrum and before Jason realizes the depth of his commitment he finds himself married to a woman who turns out is a Princess. Isabel never knew her background and the supposed uncle that was her guardian sent her away to live a life in a place no one wanted to visit let alone be educated. So finding herself now a Princess and a Viscountess Isabel learns quickly that keeping safe is not as easy as staying out of sight. Isabel made the plan to marry Jason and have her problems disappear, but that did not happen and now she faces a daunting one. She is not only ensnared in an overpowering attraction to Jason but suffers from a lack of training on how to make everyone think they are a love match as well as show she has the qualities expected of a Viscount’s wife. With the help of Jason and his family Isabel quickly becomes the belle of the ball and turns heads including Jason’s with her beauty and wit. Jason never expected to fall in love with the woman he swore to protect but as he learned early in life, nothing is what it appears, and you have to be adaptable even to love.
When the evil forces that are determined to find Isabel and use her status to control governments, and manipulate politics escalates it is Isabel that proves what the true meaning of being a Princess should be. Isabel was always one to keep up with physical duties her entire life and now that she has been training with Jason there are few questions asked when she shows just who the strong one in the room is. Isabel will not let anyone hurt her husband, harm those she loves, or stop her from having the life she desires with all of her heart. Love can win and a strong woman will never be set to the side and ignored.
When a story requires perfect character development, outstanding dialog, and sizzling romance always look for a Robyn Dehart book it never disappoints and always leaves you wanting another one to read.
When a fellow member of the Brotherhood of the Sword drops off a mysterious lady in need of protection at the house of Viscount Jason Ellis, he agrees to keep her safe not fully knowing what that will entail. Once Isabel Crisp learns the truth of her identity, that she’s the last remaining member of the royal family from the island nation of Saldania, her world is tipped upside down.
A plot to usurp the throne from Victoria after a marriage comes to light. Isabel realizes rather quickly that if she were already married the men would not succeed with their plan. Jason reluctantly agrees to marry her, but in name only as he’s bound to learn the title to his brother’s son, the rightful heir. But keeping his hands off his tempting and willing wife proves too difficult and the passion between them ignites.
This is the second book I have read in this series and the second book I have read by this author.
I must admit that I didn't like the first book I read, but found this one more enjoyable. The first thing that attracted my attention was the lovely cover. The title description also attracted my attention. I did recognize some characters from the previous read and it is important as I feel you need to have read at least part of this series to get the most out of this book. It does however read OK as a standalone.
Jason holds the title of Viscount but was actually fathered by someone other than the prior Viscount.
Knowing this has made him take a different path than most young noblemen.
He intends not to marry or sire any children that my succeed him to the title.
Isabel is a lost princess but thinks she is likely the illegitimate daughter of a nobleman. She has been hidden away in a girl's school until this time.
When she lands in Jason's care they decide that the best solution to keeping her safe is for he to marry. It seems the best choice for her groom is the very man who is now responsible for keeping her safe.
Will this unusual marriage lead to love or will they part ways after the people plotting the queen's demise are caught.
This unusual storyline held my interest. I gave the storyline and character development 4.25 of 5 stars and a sensual rating of 3.75 of 5 flames.
This couple are very attracted to each other and act on this attraction but not immediately.
There are two physical encounters, one of which is heavy petting with nudity and one where there marriage is consummated.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
