Alex scarrow best known for his TimeRiders (Book 1) series, and also for his adult thrillers A Thousand Suns, The Candle Man, Last LightAfterlightOctober Skies. The one thing that Alex has been consistent with is his great characters.
Each person is brought to life very quickly, with a very honest human quality, never given an ability or set of circumstances that the every day person could not deal with.
Its this approach that makes all his books grab you from the first page to the last.
Ellie Quin is no exception, i have to say that i draw some comparisons with "The Ballad of Halo Jones" the 2000ad classic tale, but don't let that put you off, its not a classic for no reason, its one of their iconic tales. But Alex does take the concept in a different direction.
Some might wonder if this is a tale for teens? or just girls. But I'm a 40 year old man and i enjoyed it very much....(does that say more about me or the book...i leave that to you).

I give you none of the story, as its too easy to give spoilers... but suffice to say its worth a download (its free for the next few days, and then still only £1.99 after that..

The Ellie Quin series of book are my first try with the Kindle app. Saw the books for £1.99 each and thought what the hell. The books are a very easy engaging read. I would have given them a 5 star review if there not so short. I was just getting into the story and book one ended, then book two ended and I am working through book 3 and I expect that to end. The books feel like a 200 page mini novel rather than a full novel hence the 3 stars. However I they are a great read.

I have so enjoyed this series and cannot wait for the next part of the story to unfold. Alex Scarrow has led me into a new world and I love his adaptation of words into a futuristic jargon. The characters are easy to identify with and the plot unfolds at a smart pace. Bring it on.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

Okay, I am not one for reviewing in Amazon that often, so the fact I am rushing to review Ellie Quin says something. I am tempted to gush. Instead I am going to try and explain why I am loving this book so much.
Many years ago I used to read a British comic called 2000AD, home of Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog and co. One of the comic strips I most enjoyed was `The Ballad of Halo Jones' the story of an ordinary girl who wants to `get out'. It was written by Alan (Watchmen, V for Vendetta, From Hell) Moore as was enchanting. Totally different to most of the stories in 2000AD at the time and I loved it. I kinda fell in love with Halo Jones a little bit.

Eventually I grew up and started reading Heinlein, Niven, Clarke and all the other sci-fi greats.
Now, in my 40's I have kids of my own and my eldest is a Time Riders fan. I like to read some of the boks my kids read so we can talk about them. I loved the Time Riders., so when I found out Alex Scarrow wrote more adult books I had to try them out. It is fair to say I am a Scarrow fan.

Then came Ellie Quin.

I bought the first instalment yesterday. I just finished reading the third, and I am gutted I am going to have to wait for the next part.

First the inevitable comparison.

Yes, Ellie Quin is a similar concept to Halo Jones. The universe is similar, the themes are simila, the fact Ellie meets a young confident woman to help her and inspire her. A lot of it feels similar. But that's about it. In the same way that Max begins his journey in Starman Jones (Heinlein), or Paksennarion leaves her home in Sheepfarmer's Daighter (Elizabeth Moon). But5 once her journey begins things are different. Her journey is unique.

I have read all the Ellie Quin books, stumbling on them when I did a search to see when the next Timeriders was out. I am a fully grown adult (!) but so enjoyed these books and read them one after the other so now have to wait for the next instalment in the series to find out what Ellie gets up to off world and what her role is in the future of mankind. I like Alex Scarrows writing style and don't have any complaints or criticisms on this so if you like this guy then you will enjoy this series as well.

In this 3rd book, the pace of the story picks up and now that we are very familiar with the main characters, you really can escape into their future world. I am starting to wish that Alex had created at least the first 10 books of the saga so that I don't have to wait for the next one to appear. Please please bring out the 4th installment soon Alex. Fantastic work. Thanks.

Best series of books I have ever read. 3 books just gone so fast and I need the 4th book soon. If you are reading this so called review, I admit I am no reviewer and I am not that good at writing synopsis, but I urge you to try Ellie Quin. I am so glad I did.
