Love Songs brings together the most romantic hits of Ella Fitzgerald, many of which feature the husky tones of Louis Armstrong. Highlights include "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye", "Summertime", "I've Got You Under My Skin" and "Georgia On My Mind".
Top Customer Reviews
Heavily reliant on her unsurpassed American Songbook repertoire, this collection is a superior compilation of feel-good, hopeful young love. There is so much competition here. Can she match Sinatra's interpretation of Porter's classic 'I've Got You Under My Skin'? Well it hasn't got his compelling cynical edge, but she gets under your skin in a more beguiling way than Ole Blue Eyes. And what about 'Summertime' to lift the winter blues (with a little help from the magical Armstrong)? It doesn't get more inspired.
And then there is the luscious 'The Way You Look Tonight'. I am sure she is singing to just me! Though i so wish it was me she had in mind when she sings 'You Do Something to Me'. If there is a smoother interpreter of Porter out there I don't know them. There's a great romper here too - 'Get Happy' has just that effect with every play.
But it's in the witty playfulness of these love songs that Ella excels. From being 'Cheek To Cheek' with you she invites you to 'Let's Do It' like all those educated fleas, and what 'They Can't Take Away From Me' is that she never sings off key - you even forget the vibrato. This truly is 'A Fine Romance', but somehow you feel there wouldn't be too many morals with Ella!Read more ›
