I was only a quarter of the way into this story when my curiosity got the better of me, so I thought I would check to see if Elizabeth's sister and Jedediah's brother were the stars of book one. They in fact are, but I was handed a huge shock when I read the brief description about it. Then I read the free sample and knew I had not misinterpreted what I'd read. I seriously felt like I was sucker-punched and almost wanted to cry. Since I had already purchased this novella though I forced myself to finish it. And while I thought the romance between this couple was lovely, it was too heartbreaking and bittersweet for me to enjoy.
The conclusion to this novella leaves the future of Elizabeth and Jedediah up in the air. I don't want to ruin anything for others or give away spoilers, but trust me when I say that there is no happy ending in sight for these two. For that reason I'd suggest avoiding it, as there's no sense in becoming emotionally invested. Because if you're like me and new to this series, then you're not going to like what you learn in "Emily's Vow" about the fate of this couple. Knowing what is in store for them, it felt more tragic than romantic and I think should come with a warning. Needless to say I was depressed when the story actually ended.
Personally, I don't plan to continue with this series but here are a few more tidbits that may help you decide whether or not you want to read this story...
Setting: The Carolinas, from April 1780 to July 1781
Ages: "mid-twenties" was stated for both Elizabeth & Jedediah
Kindle Locations: The story ended at 843 of 1248 and 68% with the remainder being a sneak peek of "Emily's Vow"
Language: Some words were old fashioned such as "buss" for kiss, "truncated" for shortened, "specie" for coin, and "chary" for cautious
