Book Description

Set in the world of bestselling space trading game ELITE: DANGEROUS, Simon Spurrier (X-MEN, Dredd) gives us a blood-drenched tale of crime and redemption.

About the Author

Simon Spurrier was born in 1981. Since 2001 he's become a major writer for the UK's foremost adult comic 2000 AD, and in recent years has published multiple projects through U.S. giants such as Marvel (X-MEN, LEGACY, WOLVERINE), D.C., Avatar Press, Dark Horse and Image.

He began his career as a prose writer in 2003 with a novelisation of the videogame FIRE WARRIOR. He subsequently produced work-for-hire genre novels for BL Publishing and Abaddon Press. In late 2007 Spurrier published his first creator-owned novel, CONTRACT, through Hodder Headline. This was followed in 2011 by A SERPENT UNCOILED.

Spurrier was born in Somewhere-You've-Never-Heard-Of, grew up in the heartlands of Nowhere-Terribly-Interesting, and lives today in north London. He spends much of his time in quiet cafes and pubs, where he exerts an unwanted cosmic magnetism upon any loud or malodorous patrons who should enter.

I found the first chapter a bit hard going but once passed that, the rest of the book is a good read; Natural Born Killers set in the Elite Universe. A pretty short book so you should get through it in a couple of days.

Worth reading, although not the best of the Elite novels.

If you're a fan of Elite, were expecting a good story involving the Elite Universe, the ships, the technology then don't bother. If you want to read a soft porn SF story, then go ahead. It's difficult to get into the story but then you realise what it's about. The only redeeming point is the twist at the end but other than that AVOID!

My introduction to the Elite universe was with Elite Reclamation. Coming from that book I expected a space opera of political intrigue, good plot with interesting characters, hateful villains and fun space battles between the mighty Empire and corrupt Federation. This book is not that. While the plot may have some slight potential it is so sketchy, little alluded to and thin that you only fully understand what is happening in the last few chapters with their rather poor resolution. The weak main characters are forgettable and the whole thing is so limp that gratuitous sex is used to pad out most of the novel.
This book pales in comparison to Elite Reclamation so if you are going to read both of them I recommend you read this one first then clean your palate on Reclamation.

This is not a kid friendly book, that is established within the first few pages, this book is from cover to cover a none stop orgy of hyper detailed sex and violence. I found the author revelled in the sordid details, for example do we really need to read about one of the main character's spunk all over his ships keyboard?
I'm also sorry to report that I found the Elite references fairly tacked on, I felt like the author had gone back through the book and added in the occasional name of an Elite ship, planet or piece of technology.

Work your way past the lurid scenes and what's underneath is a fairly decent and imaginative generic sci-fi novel.
I will not re-read this but I am glad I bought and read it. It's narrative twists and turns are well thought out and the ending caught me off guard. There is humour here too and I found myself chuckling away to myself in spots, mainly these where in response to the main computer's sarcastic responses.

So, in conclusion, if you like reading books which contain detailed accounts of the main characters having sexy following, and on the odd occasion whilst, murdering innocent people just for fun then BUY THIS BOOK NOW! (Warning may contain trace amounts Elite references).

Seriously though, buy it, its a fairly decent Sci-Fi book with a good ending and a few twists here and there.
