Having looked at Nikon flash guns and been discouraged by their prices I was a little hesitant about purchasing this unit due to the very reasonable price. I have been pleased just how well built and effective this unit has proved to be. It has produced some very good informal portrait shots. It has full compatability with my Nikon D3000 and works well with the 18-55 kit lens, the 55-200mm telescopic lens and also with the 35mm prime lens. The TTL system coordinates effectively with the camera via the hot shoe and the flash is reasonably powerful up to about 3 metres after which power falls off quite sharply. It is not really powerful enough for larger group photos. Like all flashes the light can be a little harsh but the swivling/tilting head allow bounce flash to counter this. The built in diffuser and reflector are also a bonus. It can also be used on manual settings to control the power output. The recycle rate is plenty fast enough for normal shots and always seems to be ready to fire by the time I want to press the shutter. I have not yet tried burst or continuous shooting mode. The unit seems quite sturdy and well put together. Then only minor niggles are the on-off/power adjustment switch which is low set and can be difficult to turn (especially wearing gloves!) and the door for the batteries which has a rather loose hinge arrangement and seems a possible source of future problems. For the price this has so far proved to be an excellent piece of kit.

I bought this flash after reading numerous reviews on flickr and other photography sites. The flash met all my expectations and more. The dial is a super fast way of regulating between iTTL and manual power (an excellent feature in my opinion). Battery life is the same as a Metz 36. Recharge time on charged batteries is good but not as fast as I had read. I would advise anyone looking at a cheap alternative to a Nikon SB-600 to consider this flash. The only missing feature is strobe.

I received my Speedlite flasgun today, so I haven't tested it all the way. But for what I have tested in an indoor situation, where the internal flash causes a problem (taking a photo of my guitar on the wall, where the internal flash causes reflection on the body and also an 'ugly' shade) the picture now looks superb!

Also the brightness (fully adjustable), the way TTL works and the speed of this flashgun, keeping up with the burst shots of the camera, promises to guarantee a whole lot of photographing pleasure!

Bought this as a cheap substitute for a proper Nikon flash. It does the trick well when it decides to work but is very unstable and freezes up quite often, which is very irritating.

For the price I can't complain but must be honest and let any potential buyers know that it is a cheap flash and performs accordingly.

If you're looking to shoot more than 5 pics a min this will not do the job but if you're just looking for an occasional flash that is better than the built in flash then it's a good buy.

I purchased this along with a Nikon D3000, kit lens and a 35mm one. I was discouraged by Nikon's speedlight units because of the high price. Well, it turns out this unit is far from perfect, but it does wonders in most situations...seeing what a flash unit can do I became addicted to it, and now I shoot about 90% of the time with flash, fill flash for outdoors, vertical bounce as well as horizontal swivel flash indoors, etc.
The good things are the vertical and horizontal swivel (you need that), the TTL so you don't need to go into manual mode, and it looks solidly buit to me.
The not so good, is that sometimes I need to set up flash compensation at the cammera. the unit has enough power but the metering may not be that accurate and sometimes I retake the shot due to underexposure.
Bottom line, for the money you cant go wrong, it will certainly improve your pictures, and you may need to re-take a few if exposure needs to be adjusted. However, if your budget allows, I'd suggest a higher end unit instead...I didn't realize how important a flash unit is until I had one...I suppose a better unit will get the exposure right on all cases.

I have not had the product long, but have been impressed with the ease of use and build quality. It worked first time with my D5100 and the tilt & rotate functionality creates good lighting effects. Considering the Nikon SB700 is around £250, this is a great starter flash for someone wanting more flexibility from the on-camera "pop-up" flash.

This flash is fantastic value for money offering vertical bounce as well as horizontal swivel. In comparison to the on camera built in flash the difference in picture quality and colour tones is fantastic. Great purchase.

Wanting to buy a Nikon D3000 Camera, to get back to indoor photography with a separate flashgun, I searched widely on the internet for an economical priced flashgun to do the job. Two days ago I found this item on Amazon, and after consideration knowing their returns policy I purchased it, and within 12 hours it was on my desk. Being in technology overload with a new camera to find my way round, I put off trying out the Speedlite YN465 for a couple of hours, but when I opened it finally, it was so simple and brilliant in use. So thank you Amazon for answering my prayers, well done !!!
