Freddie, the protagonist, is caught up in the fight for survival. His best friend has been arrested for being an anti-government activist and Freddie decides he has to do something to save his friend from certain execution. Freddie's decision to help his friend is suicidal. If the government catches him, he would join his friend on death row. Freddie is a biologist who works in a game park. He is fat and he doesn't look like your everyday action hero. Along the way, he meets Jennifer. She is a self-styled tough girl who is good with a gun. She dislikes Freddie but she must join forces with him in their fight for survival.
The author clearly explains how the electronic gags work. Electronic gags are collars which the government use to silence and track people. Although this book is science fiction, none of its concepts defies the laws of science. The government of the Ten Provinces made the electronic gags using proven scientific concepts and this is one of the things that make this story believable.
This is basically the story of people's fight against autocratic state. When Freddie meets ex-cop Jennifer in prison, the book assumes a romantic dimension. The president of the Ten Provinces thrusts Freddie and Jennifer into a death game in which they must run away from armed policemen and survive for a week to earn freedom. To survive the death games, Freddie and Jennifer must work together but Jennifer dislikes Freddie the moment she meets him. Jennifer hates fat people and Freddie happens to be fat. She believes Freddie will slow her down. She doesn't know that F
The supreme leader okays a proposal to put electronic gags on citizens. If it was impossible for Freddie to free Michael from prison before the government put an electronic gag round his neck, it becomes IMPOSSIBLE after the government collars him. Along the story, easy-going Freddie meets tough girl Jennifer. Jennifer hates Freddie when she when she meets him but they are bound together in their fight for survival. I highly recommend Electronic Gags.
