The instructions claim that the device contains all the words in the Collins dictionary. The reality is that it will fail to find a lot of words that if you were to enter into the Collins online dictionary it would find immediately. As an example: Extent. This is found immediately on the online dictionary but searching on the bookmark will return a totally different word. And this is where many of the reviewers before me are noting that it is missing words. Actually the words are there, at least in some of the cases, but you have to do some additional work to find them because of a software bug.
The word 'extent', for instance, is actually a sub-entry that can be found after a lot of scrolling under the word 'extend'. This is not nearly as friendly as the online dictionary, which finds the word immediately. And you will recall from above that entering 'extent' does not actually return the word 'extend' either. it brings up an unrelated word. Hence, it is even more confusing.
Basically there is a bug in the software. The search actual brings up the next word in its database rather than the one that contains the sub-word. This is a bug, and it is bad enough that it should have been fixed. If you look at the instructions it has a small section that explains this problem away as if it is acceptable.Read more ›
Bought this gadget for my 11 year old grandson - he got it yesterday(Christmas day) He and we think it is an ideal word checker for an avid reader. It is so convenient sitting in the book you are reading and instantly available for use. The ordering process, once I got away from Gizmo site (still don't know how I gort there!!) and their inflated price (£19.99) - and there complicated basket system which finished with me ordering twice before later cancelling both and getting back to Amazon where I started the search. Also
bought 2 x Primeval (Nos 4 and 5) from you. Your price delivery etc is absolutely first class on all three items.
My wife and I are so impreseed with the dictionary book mark we will probably end up buying one for ourselves. A super little "gadget". Many thanks.
