This isn't going to be a full written review because really this game doesn't require a long review. The battlefield franchise has been known for its amazing multiplayer, but every battlefield game before this one had a pretty good singleplayer to sit alongside it, Hardline's singleplayer is dreadful, you play this generic looking cop with a generic terrible life before the law back story..all that's need to be said is if you were looking for a realistic police officer game this really isn't it, every aspect of 'realism' you'd expect from a normal BF game isn't here at all.
Multiplayer, well that's mediocre..it's much more closed off and fast paced compared to its predecessors which isn't what battlefield fans look for, and it really doesn't suit the style of the franchise..plus you die within seconds of respawing which is irritating, and it lacks weapons and..well everything.
To conclude my rant, try the game if you really wish to, my advice is to avoid it and simply play battlefield 4..Battlefield 4 still gets updates, has a wide range of gameplay and content, and still has thousands of people playing. My friend and I played Hardline for a few days, then we instantly regretted selling BF4, we immediately bought BF4 again...

as others have pointed out this does not feel like a Battlefield title but that is where I like it as any game will be hard pressed to get me away from BF4 Conquest Large online and for that mode Hardline has no chance, but for the other modes, especially Hotwire it is great to play and that is where I am happy with Hardline as I now have to excellent online shooters instead of a replacement for a previous Battlefield.

I LOVED Battlefield 4. It got quite a bit of stick, but I thought - after patch fixes and DLC - it was an excellent game.

BEWARE! Battlefield: Hardline is a very, very different animal...

For me, the general manner of behaving around your enemies is a cross between Hitman: Absolution (PS3) and Metal Gear Solid. Whilst you can approach the game 'all guns blazing', it has clearly been designed for you to act stealthily as a cop and to take down enemies without using brutal force. Take them alive.

The general gameplay feel is a cross between Army of Two, LA Noire and Sleeping Dogs. It's a million miles away from the Battlefield games of the past that I know and loved.

I think this should have been a standalone title under a different name (perhaps just 'Hardline'). I can only think that they bundled this under the Battlefield brand in hope of better sales, or because they are under pressure to deliver a Battlefield game annually and this was the only idea that they came up with. I sincerely hope that this is not the case, as fear of releasing a new franchise, lack of ideas, or creating a new game under a recognised brand name for the sake of things would be a travesty, to say the least.

Perhaps this is just a new direction for the Battlefield series. But if it is, I'm going to miss the old games even more.

Call of Duty - the Battlefield series greatest rival and competition - also took a dramatic change of direction from the original war-based titles from WWI and WWII to the movie-like modern-day action games that we see now. I like the new COD games, but I definitely miss the old 'Medal of Honor' style ones too.

Hardline is a good fun game, but the victim of poor marketing from the developers.

I was a previous massive lover of the Battlefield series but the past year ventured elsewhere with nothing really grabbing my attention I ended up returning to the newly released battlefield hardline. At first I enjoyed it but something just didn't seem right. After a couple of weeks of playing I found myself bored and went to get the previous battlefield 4 as I had all the dlc and it was at a low price, then I realised what the problem was. Battlefield Hardline is a good game, but battlefield 4 is far better. I could actually mistake hardline for a downloaded map pack for battlefield 4. The campaign is good but I wouldn't say it's any better or worse the no.4, but the multiplayer is where it really fails. Compared to battlefield 4 the maps are tiny and really disrupts the flow at times, the weapon selection is terrible with a mere 6 choices per class. Obviously being a police vs criminal game there aren't going to be any tanks, fighter jets or advanced technology, so surely it was just a bad idea to attempt it? To anyone new to the series by all means this is a great game but I think battlefield 4 is a far far better game

A solid action packed shooter. Battlefield hardline is a good shooter and will keep you entertained. But comparing the game to its predecessor battlefield 4, hardline feels like a toned down version of the game with most in game destruction missing, tanks and jets nowhere to be seen which is all fairly understandable looking at where the game is set and the cops and robbers theme that there is. But I can't help feeling that it does feel like a toned down version of battlefield 4, which is disappointing to say the least. But I did have fun with battlefield hardline and most likely will continue to do so. If you love shooters I would encourage you to play this game as it still is solid game.
