Join the sci-fi universe of Darkspore, a new breed of Action-RPG in which you battle across alien worlds against a deadly foe. Collect an arsenal of living weapons - genetic heroes with different combat abilities - and upgrade them with tens of thousands of collectible body parts and armor utilizing technology from the award-winning Spore Creature Editor. Fight in co-op and solo battles against hordes of genetically mutated Darkspore enemies and bosses, or in PvP arena battles against other players.
For a millennium, the Crogenitors traveled the galaxy on their evolutionary mission, genetically altering the DNA of life forms they encountered to grant them new powers and abilities. Their greatest achievement was the creation of super-warriors: the Genetic Heroes. Discovering the power of “exponential” DNA (E-DNA), extremist Crogenitors sought to make their ultimate soldiers even more powerful. But E-DNA was unstable, unpredictable, and ultimately uncontrollable. Hordes of mutated abominations broke free from their masters’ control. They were the Darkspore. And after terrible ages of war, the Darkspore closed in on the final Crogenitors.
As a fugitive in the galactic hive of Darkspore domination, you’re a surviving Crogenitor who’s awoken from eons of sleep. Your only guide is HELIX, the AI who’s kept you in safe hiding since you entered suspended animation. Now, using HELIX’s exhaustive DNA database, you must reconstruct the Genetic Heroes using stabilized E-DNA. Make these Heroes more powerful than their original incarnations to lead them into an apocalyptic battle against the Darkspore.
Collect – Build a powerful squad! Collect more than 25 Genetic Heroes from three character classes (Sentinel, Ravager, Tempest) and five Genesis types (Bio, Cyber, Plasma, Necro, Quantum). Upgrade your Heroes with tens of thousands of collectible body parts, armor and weapons.
Customize – Make each of your Heroes truly unique with loot collected throughout the game. See statistical advantages and disadvantages of equipped gear, in real time, to create squads of three tailored to your play style. A nearly limitless array of combinations is at your fingertips for a truly individual gameplay experience.
Fight – Explore the galaxy with your squads, each with three customized Heroes, defeating the Darkspore in the solo campaign or in co-op, or challenging other players in PvP.

In overall I really enjoying this game, its a fun coop game that can be played with 3 other friends or random people, and it offers a lot of content. I believe that this game shouldn't be ignore since it has a lot of potentiating.
As for the game itself, I haven't reached the higher levels yet so I dunno if the stories of the game becoming a grind at higher levels are true, but from what I've seen so far it's a really solid Diablo clone. The reason I would knock off 1 star is the loot system isn't as fun as a regular fantasy action RPG. In Darkspore you collect parts for your heroes to customize them, but it's never quite as fun as the varied loot in Diablo. Also you don't have the same level of customization as in Spore. Where the game shines though is the 100 unlockable heroes and having 3 to choose from during each mission (you switch between them). It adds a nice bit of strategy. You have to change hero lots mid mission, not just to keep them alive but also if you fight enemies of the same type as your hero you take more damage (there's 5 types of hero and enemies).
Overall though, Darkspore really surprised me. You wouldn't think taking Spore (which let's face it wasn't great) and turning it into an action RPG would work, or that Maxis could pull off a new genre, but it's surpisingly good and fun to play. It also has nice graphics IMO. I'm looking forward to trying it multiplayer, since action RPG are usually much more fun with other people.
From what I found on the internet, it does appear a lot of people are indeed enjoying the game and as we have had no problems with all of the other Spore titles the lads own and enjoy, I purchased two copies to keep the lads happy.
Intall was slow as it required a lot of patches after installation which took around 1.5 hours on broadband. (We did two pc installs simultaneously so one intall might be quicker.)
When it comes to registereing the product, the genuine and unused product registration code that came in the box with the disc (retail code) did not initially work.
This is what we found worked for us on win 7 64 bit gaming systems to register and play the game.
We firstly closed the game launcher window, then opened our web browser and logged into our EA account from the official [...] website. Then, once logged into our EA account we opened another web page and went to the [...]product registration page where we entered the product registration code exactly as it shows including the dashes and hit the GO button. (If you don't have an EA Account, you will need one to register.)
Then, when we re-started the game launcher window, both games loaded, worked well and the lads really enjoyed playing both solo and in the co-op mode. A bit different to the other Spore titles, but it is rated for Teens.
We also encountered error message 73003, unable to login, please try again on one of the computers this morning, but after several attempts, we shut the game down on that pc, re-started the computer and then it worked...
So all in all, not to bad, but a little frustrating from a parents point of view when things go wrong...
The only problem with the game is upon installation, it opens the BETA launcher - just wait for a few minutes and it'll update to the release launcher and update your game, so you do NOT need to download it online from the website. Amazon are selling this for £3, I paid £15 and it's a fun game - so stock up and give a copy to your friends too and enjoy it!
Incredibly fun and impressive game set in the spore universe :)
