However, there is a price to pay for this in the system specs to run this although they do not seem unreasonable these days however I did come across a problem I have not experienced in any other game. I run a mildly overclocked early generation Intel i5 processor with an enhanced cooling fan which has taken everything that has been thrown at it to date. However, after a long session, the machine started crashing randomly and after some investigation, this was down to head from the processor. This was exceeding 100 degrees centigrade while the heat sink was noticeably hot. I have managed to run the game by removing the overclock but it still gets very hot and uses CPU utilisation like no other I have played.
The game itself plays well although it is frustrating that you cannot save at any point although I didn't find the checkpoints too far apart. You can decide ti approach using stealth or full-on attack or a combination of both and the enemies are challenging and behave reasonably although they can be over accurate with their grenades. You can tag enemies to plan your best approach although there is often a surprise gun or soldier tucked away and within the confines of a linear game different approaches can be attempted so that you do not feel the only way is an all-out assault. based on their numbers, capabilities or location.
You modify your suit and weapons as you progress along the way which helps with the tougher foes and the boss levels weren't too hard once you had worked out weak points. Some of the levels are large but ultimately this is a much more linear game than the first one although it is nice to be able to try different strategies. Some of the cinematic scenes are very impressive and the bursting of the dam is one of the best scenes I have seen in a game and changes a familiar area significantly which is a nice touch. However, sometimes it gets rather dark and hard to work out how to progress.
This is a good game if you have the machine capable to run it but does not feel a significant advance on Crysis 2 and neither have the scale and imagination of the original game.
Crysis 3 has impressive, high resolution and high polygon count graphics, curves and animation are smooth with consistent frame rates.
However, the story line is alright. The use of pre-rendered cinematics at lower resolution is disappointing; it would be preferable to see cinematics computed in real time by the game's graphics engine. Physics are disappointing, especially when compared to games such as Far Cry 3. On the first level (on the ship), grab a box and drop it into the sea: it's passing through the surface of the water as if there is no water, no splash, no floating, nothing. If the developers paid more attention to the story line and the physics, this would be a very special game.
The multiplayer mode is great. Very responsive game play and carefully designed maps provide the ultimate battlefield for futuristic soldiers.
The game is still very much worth buying and playing for its top-class graphics and smooth, consistent gameplay.
Downside as with all modern games is that they demand internet, and account elsewhere. Gone are the days of just sticking this in the DVD tray and off it goes.
Story is compelling with a good ending I felt, but a bit short. The multiplayer is as good as you are at the game really, you'll like it if your good at it or won't like it if you aren't so good at it.
The game itself is enjoyable and if you have played the others in the series and enjoyed them you should enjoy this.
I had bought this through Origin as it was the Deluxe version but decided I wanted the set so bought this as well..
Hoping to get into it and get it completed as soon as I can :D Very excited to have it...
I couldn't play it as the activation code had apparently already been used on somebody else's EA account.
Also what's the point of buying a game on a disc if you have to be online to play it.
EA sucks and I'll never buy another EA game.
