Completed roughly half the campaign on flat screen - fantastic sound and visuals. Enjoyable missions and experimenting with different ships and loadouts added variety. Nervously tried the VR, wondering if it would be blurry but my gosh, it's spot on. Difficult to put into words but the VR is simply incredible. One of those rare games when I didn't care if I died in game, just hit retry and boom, straight back in the action. Little to no motion sickness that does happen with Ace Combat, meaning I can confidently and comfortably play for a long time.
No frustrating loading times, you can skip the FMV and skip the dialogues with the other characters in game.
Tinkered with online for about an hour and that was fun. Won a couple of games, lost a couple of games. Levelled up, got some rewards and started some customisation of my players and ships.
I'm loving depth of the balancing the engine, shield and weapon during flight - so many nice touches that make this game a good play on flat screen (DV "Impressive") and a new benchmark for PSVR (DV Most impressive) moving forward.
Even so it is one of the best Star Wars space battle games ever produced, although there were quite a few in the distant past that I could appreciate like Jedi Star Fighter. Still I’m more into adventure, world-discovering type of games like Faller Order, that I would prefer over this one. Moreover while I’m occasionally playing Star Wars Battlefront II, my young son’s favourite game, I must say while less sophisticated that also has pretty good space battles.
Having said that, the Squadrons’ missions are exciting to play and look particularly great. Locations like Yavin, the Imperial ship graveyard are super detailed, breathtakingly beautiful.
I haven’t played the multiplayer variant, as I like to play my video games on my own.
Given its relatively low price tag Squadrons is good value even though the game itself is a bit narrow and purely focussed on space battle simulation. The story mode is around six or seven hours long, and I spent a bit more to win additional medals.

The gameplay reminded me a lot of the old Wing Commander games where you start in the hanger (where you can chat to other characters) before getting your mission briefing then onto the combat, and whilst it's a good gameplay element I feel this part was let down by the rather annoying characters you interact with. The rebels are rather dull and I found myself ignoring them completely after a time and moving straight onto the mission briefing. The Empire's lot are a bit better (then it's good to play the bad guys). The character creation is also very limited and rather pointless.
That aside, the gameplay itself is worth the price and there's a lot of fun to be had. If you've ever wanted to fly an x-wing or Tie then this is as close as you'll get for now. It's exhilarating and challenging and the missions are varied enough to keep you interested.
You really feel like yo are sat in a TIE or X-wing.
Good set of solo/story missions but the longevity is in the multiplayer space battles.
Hopefully some more content/ modes will be added in the future as well.
Takes a while to get the controls down but once you get the hang of it, it turns out to be quite easy to quickly control your movement and shields etc in the heat of battle.
Probably the best VR space shooter I've played so far, some just make you dizzy and disorientated but this one seems nice and smooth and you feel you are in control of things.
