I don't usually review games but found one of the reviews a little unfair so thought I would bump up the rating of this game and say that this isn't Battlefront, therefore it isn't like Battlefront and you should not expect Battlefront. Squadrons doesn't even have the same developers as Battlefront. If you want Battlefront then get Battlefront.

Now let me tell you a little bit about Squadrons and why I really like it. It has great graphics, especially if you play on a One X or if you are planning to get a Series X/PS5, I imagine it will look even better. The interior of the different starfighters such as the X-Wing and TIE Fighters are extremely detailed and easy enough to get used to. You can customise your starfighters loadouts such as changing their primary weapons, engines, hull etc as well as the paint and your pilot. There's also no loot crates or microtransactions of any kind, all you need (at least at the time of typing this review) is the game.

The only thing I found a bit meh was the story. It was fine but without spoiling it or anything, it felt a bit unfinished (especially for the Imperial side). Luckily, I wanted this game for the long run, which means playing online. The online has two fun gamemodes. I think it would be cool if they added more in the future, maybe one that supports more than 10 players but I do understand why they went with 5v5 modes, to make it feel more competitive and team based and to not get overwhelmed with getting shot at in all directions. Adding more starfighters like a B-Wing or TIE Striker could be cool too.

If you like Star Wars and you like starfighters then I highly recommend this game just based on that.

I bought this game because I love space combat type games. I didn't look at any of the reviews as I like to make up my own mind about things.

The speed of the delivery was great. Just a couple of days. The install and update time was also great. About an hour or so.

The problem came when playing the game. The idea of the game is awesome. The controls take a bit of getting used to, but I like a challenge. The graphics and visuals are brilliant and the sound and vocal chatter are brilliant too.

The only issue I have is going from one mission to the next. During the narrative, at any point between missions, the game freezes/locks up. Neither the control sticks nor the buttons work. The only button that does work is the menu. This means that the only way to get to the next mission is to come out of the game to the title menu and go back in again. This is extremely frustrating as I want to play the game, not mess about in menu screens.

I tried uninstalling, deleting my saved games, and re-installing the game in the hope that it was just an installation glitch. Sadly, this did not work and I am too frustrated to keep the game. So, I sent it back. I am not a happy bunny! 😞

EDIT: Since writing my initial review, and before I sent the game back, I tried installing the game on my sons xbox. I found that the game played properly with no issues at all. I decided to try and install the game back on my xbox, but this time I installed it to my external hard drive. The game worked properly with no issues so I kept it. 😁

I'm so pleased I purchased this game. I've played most Star Wars games over the years & this has quickly become one of my faves. The thrill of taking part in space combat in a cockpit is beyond words. There are various customisation options for your Rebel & Imperial characters, as well as the ships (including ornaments for your cockpit). Some of the game is set a couple of years after Return Of The Jedi with bits set after Aldaaran's destruction. There are a fair few ships for either side with a couple more added in December's update (B-Wing & TIE Defender). It arrived a day early so the e-mail that morning was a nice surprise. I highly recommend adding this to your collection. Absolutely fantastic.

The Game play is fairly predictable, the fun lies in customising your craft to mission objectives. You can tune up the defensive and offensive capabilities of four different type of craft so that you can decide what role you want to play in a battle. Multiplayer and Solo are available. Now, not sure if I am just being daft but I sometimes like to fly from the 3rd person prospective rather than from the 1st person cockpit view, if it can be turned on I can’t find out how!! That aside, it’s fun and I like to jump between this, Battlefront II and Fallen Order.
