Their story was so sad, with some harrowing circumstances that not only brought them together, but kept their souls connected on a higher level for the years that followed. It was a journey filled with love & anger, hurt & healing, sadness & happiness, for where Damien was the darkness in the depths of hell, Amira was the purest of light, an angel sent from heaven.
The early chapters gripped me hard, honestly I don’t think I was aware that I could even hold my breath that long. They were hard hitting, gut wrenching & ugly. My heart tore at its seams for Damien, giving me a new found appreciation & a massive hero worthy level of respect for this dark & dangerous killer. He was a victim to circumstance that changed him forever, a man raised for death & destruction. He never had a choice other than to obey. But even then that wasn’t enough.
But Amira IS his light & she is without doubt one of my favourite MR heroines. For even with the hand she was dealt in life, the monsters that changed her world, she still radiated light, love & innocence. I loved how she loved Damian, how she refused to give up, always hoping, always giving. Her spirit shone like brightest star in night sky, I defy anyone not to love this girl.
One of my fav scenes is near the beginning. It showed so beautifully how their hearts & souls called to each other. How instant trust, hope & protection was formed & was cemented between them. How a monster opened his heart to love an angel. How hand in hand this gorgeous man & this brave little girl understood just how much they needed each other to keep moving forward. Not knowing what tomorrow would bring. Gah I couldn’t stop the leaky eyes from this point onwards but nor did I care.
I’m not even going to mention the ending, except to say it was perfect & exactly how it was meant to be.
5 stunning stars
From the first pages I was gripped by the intensity, the darkness, the scenes that made me squirm, it sucked me in and even now I have finished I feel like I can't let go.
This is no ordinary love story, it's not intended to be and so cleverly written by M Robinson an author who hasn't failed me yet to deliver exactly what I need in a book.
Amira is a nine year old girl who witnesses the massacre of her family in her home.
Damien is a young soldier in a coumbian communist war, groomed by a leader who is cold, evil and calculated and Demon is expected to be his byproduct.
Damien and Amira meet in the darkest night of both their lives, a night that kills them but also saves them.
After the deaths of Amira's family members, a family who's only sin's have been an act of anti-communism, Amira comes out of hiding, Amira and Damien's eyes connect and you could say there's a instant connection.
Damien is ordered to kill Amira but fakes her death and later returns for her.
A boy who turns into a cruel, unrelenting and evil man to his enemies only has one soft spot and Amira owns it.
"I may have saved her life but she kept me alive. None of it made sense, our connection was solely linked through darkness".
The journey in this story, it broke me, soothed me, claimed me all of the above and more, and Damien? I hated and loved him as did Amira at times.
Damien was a paradox of contradictions. His words always spoke one thing, but his actions always proved another.
M.Robinson has yet again left me in awe, I didn't think any book could move me like road to nowhere did but with a similar feel to that story, It did move me over and over.
Looking forward to more in this story and counting down the days.
"He was the beginning to my end or maybe the end to my beginning".
El Santo is told in dual pov's, contains violence and sensitive scenes.

Well I’ve managed to get my thoughts together and my heart rate’s calmed down a little after reading this masterpiece of a book, well that’s a bit of a lie I didn’t read it... I lived and breathed it, a whole decade in just under 3 hours, from the very first sentence till the last.
Damien... Damien... Damien... what can I say? Did I hate him? YES, Did I love him? The answer to that would be a HELL YES. I wanted to punch the hell out of him yet at the same time I wanted to comfort him in any way possible.
Move over Martinez and Lexi there’s a new king and queen in town, Damien and Amira are just the most perfect protagonists I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about. El Santo is filled with angst, it has Damien the ultimate alpha hero who you’ll just love to hate yet hate to love and then there’s Amira who you just can’t help but fall in love with, she’s filled with strength and sass, I reckon we were only just seeing the tip of what she’s capable of in El Santo, there’s a whole lot more to come from her.
M Robinson has done it again with another amazing book that showcases her impeccable writing skills, she drew me chewed me up and spat me out yet I’m still going back for more, I need more January can’t come quick enough.
I will admit I was totally unprepared going into this book Robinson you got me good it was completely different to what I was expecting, you’re such a minx 😉 I’m off to wallow in my own misery and heartbreak for a good few months now only to be put through it again in January no doubt but I’m sure in fact I know it will be worth it #bringiton.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book.
