As I bought these just for the cabinets as i was planning to replace the 10" speakers with subwoofers, after listening to them for half an hour I really had second thoughts, only thing I replaced was the horn tweeter with a pyle dryver super tweeter, the 10" speakers in these sound surprisingly good I was shocked just how good actually.
Only things ive done to these is add speaker wadding and replaced the horn tweeter (I do not like the sound of the small horns)
These are perfect for bedroom dj's/karaoke setups/music making, they are very loud too, deafening loud at 50% volume in my 18ft livingroom anyway with the bass face amplifier.
They don't lack in bass either which is another aspect of these speakers I am very pleased with, for their price they won't be beaten I promise, once the horn is replaced with a pyle bullet tweeter these speakers sound fantastic, balanced and solid. They shine in sound when theyre turned up a bit.
The badges on the back state the frequency response is 40hz to 18khz, but in fact after doing some testing they go from around 37hz to 22khz (once the tweeter has been replaced that is) adding wadding has dampened unwanted frequencies out completely and made the sound more solid and defined. For a budget speaker set i'm absolutely over the moon with them.Read more ›
If your VERY cheep, don't mind having peizos that leak and sound shocking and no low end due to a speaker with x.mech of a few millimetres at most don't buy!
These would be ok for a beginner or someone who cant build there own driver specific boxes as they are fairly strong, they just realy fail in sound. THis review may sound harsh but I am getting into professional audio and to a pro, these are awful. No crossovers in them, just resistors. Don't even have speakon in!
I've been using these for a good few hours now. Apart from the small bit of DIY soldering back on the crossover that came out of place on one of the cabinets, they are definitely good sounding cabinets. They do not handle bass overly well when at higher volumes but realistically they're not meant to. If you're looking for more bass you may want to buy some aftermarket 10" drivers or buy some 15" subs with them, but these do fine for me. If it weren't for the loose crossover and slightly anemic main woofer bass handling, I'd have given these five stars.
-- End of Update --
I had been eyeing up these cabinets for a while but held back because of the too-good-to-be-true feeling I got from these. This was only extended by the wonderfully quick dispatch time, a day after my order they were dispatched with DPD delivering them in the morning, I had used the standard free delivery. Top marks to electromarket for getting these out so quick, it's a wonder they can do this so cheaply. But onto the product itself..
The enclosures themselves are lighter than your standard PA cabs, they do feel a little cheap and tacky, but this is only to the touch and I don't think you'd know unless you've become comfortable using more expensive Peavey or Yamaha systems. They are made from 15mm chipboard and the terminals, handles and the 8 corner braces are cheap grades of plastic. They do the job adequately. More than anything, these cabinets are exceptionally light, weighing in at only 7kg per cabinet.
Unscrewing the front grill on the main 10" driver reveals the PA driver, which is firm to the touch and a quick tap reveals the sort of response you'd expect from this ported cabinet. Unscrewing the driver allowed me to inspect the internals of the cabinet.Read more ›
