Product description

Product Description

In 1931, at the height of his artistic powers, Soviet filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein travels to Mexico to shoot a new film. Freshly rejected by Hollywood and under increasing pressure to return to Stalinist Russia, Eisenstein arrives at the city of Guanajuato.

Chaperoned by his guide Palomino Cañedo, he vulnerably experiences the ties between Eros and Thanatos, sex and death, happy to create their effects in cinema, troubled to suffer them in life.

Awarded Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema at the 2014 BAFTAs,  writer/director Peter Greenaway (Nightwatching, Goltzius & The Pelican Company) explores the mind of one of the greatest masters of Cinema through ten passionate days that helped shape the rest of his career.

I like Peter Greenaway's work and this film did not let me down. Interesting choice a film about Eisenstein's foray into Mexico to make a Mexican film and the influences that effected his time there and the possible broadening of his Horizon's. For me the use of so much wonderful music by Prokofiev added to the longing for Russia that was underplaying his time there. Acting wise excellent performances from the leads and the local Mexicans extra were fabulous. Not a film for every one but I really enjoyed it!

This is one amazing movie, story, direction, photography, editing and a sublime choice of music. One of the best 5.1 sound mixes I have heard in many months. Those that say there is are no sub-titles, they are on sub-title selection 2 on the Blu Ray.
YOU NEED TO BE IN THE RIGHT FRAME OF MIND TO VIEW IT, but then it is simply amazing.

So another film from my favourite director and another film I cant watch and enjoy because yet again - NO SUBTITLES for the deaf. Such a shame as Drowning by numbers one of all time favourites as DOES have subs. Really really disappointed again, anyone know how to contact Mr Greenaway to ask that this doesn't happen again?
