After removing the Matsushita UJ892 CD/DVD drive from my laptop it was now clear that I could remove the three fixing brackets and reuse the on the HDD Caddy. The screws securing the brackets to the existing CD/DVD drive were to short to reach the embedded threads of the caddy but I have that sort of hardware in my workshop so simply replace them for longer ones which I had - I think they were M2.5x10mm. The Caddy seems to have all the same mounting holes as the UJ892. Only one of the fixing brackets needed a little modification, a bend to make it all fit but this was easily achievable with a pair of pliers - the UJ892 had a little recess for this bracket - the Caddy did not. The CD/DVD bezel was also removed from the old drive and fits seamlessly on the caddy - this information on removal and fitting I did glean from a You-tube video.
For the SSD, I chose a Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD and this slotted in seamlessly into the Caddy and was secured with the four screws that came with the Caddy.Read more ›
I can see from other reviews it does work for some people but for whatever reason not for me and I can only suggest you make sure it works fully with the machine you intend installing it in before making a purchase?
Fitted to my Dell Precision M4600.
However, only 4 stars as unlike others, this doesn't come with a faceplate. The CD drive I removed was one of these where there is an open slot so you feed the disk in, and therefore has no faceplate to remove and fit to the caddy to tidy it up. There would have been no harm or real manufacturing expense in it including a generic faceplate.
Overall good value for money and got delivered in only 2 days.

Just about does what it supposed to do but be warned it is very cheaply made. But then again it is cheep. The fake CDROM cover snapped during install. Spend a few quid more.Published 9 months ago by Sinclair Macleod

Might not be the fault of the product, but it didn't work for me.
