Product description

Amazon.co.uk Review

In a nutshell:
It may seem as if this has missed the boat on topical tie-ins but with so few games offering up a virtual game of cops ‘n’ robbers this is a surprisingly fresh take on the whole action genre.

The lowdown:
Trying to make a game out of a fourteen year old movie that consists primarily of men in suits standing around shouting at each other is not the most obvious of concepts, but as the most important crime movie of the last twenty years Reservoir Dogs proves to have great potential as a video game. As you can imagine most of the game involves sequences only hinted at in the movie as you actually take part in the diamond store heist, escape the police, abduct Marvin the luckless cop and stash the diamonds as Mr Pink. The game rates how you play on a moral scale, giving you full freedom to take hostages, torture and kill - or play the nice guy and try not to get anyone hurt.

Most exciting moment:
Just like the movie the game is filled with flashbacks and scenes that happen out of chronological order. Amidst the fairly generic driving missions the best bits by far are the third person combat sequences where, if you decide to play nasty, you can unleash a “bullet festival” special move when your adrenaline maxes out.

Since you ask:
Despite concerns over the game’s violence before its release, Eidos have pointed out that it’s actually possible (if quite difficult) to play through and win the entire game without killing anyone.

The bottom line:
A clever use of an unusual license, that’s more hits than misses.
HARRISON DENT

Manufacturer's Description

In 1992 an unknown director released a film about five total strangers, teaming up to commit the perfect crime. The heist went wrong, people were killed and they smelt a rat.

Staying true to the film's chronology, this intense third-person shooter follows the progress and planning of that famed diamond heist - filling in some of the blanks left in the film. What happened to Mr Blue and Mr Brown? Where did Mr Pink hide the diamonds? And, what actually happened in the heist? At last, these questions and more will be answered.

it is a very fun game but it is a bit short and end abruptly in my opinion

The movie Reservoir dogs is in my top three of all time favourite films so when I heard they were bringing a game out I was thriled but at the same time hesitant as movie tie-ins never seem to live up to the hype in most cases. Still, regardless of what magazine reviews would rate it I knew I would still want to see for myself because of my love for the film. I bought this on day of release and I actually finished on Normal level within 5 hours. Not much life span there. Normally I would go back and then try on hard level however I'm afraid I wont do with this game. The reason for this is because although it is a sexy looking game visually ( although the characters look or sound nothing like there movie counterparts in most cases but I guess that's because of licenses ) it is VERY VERY repetative. When you first start out in the training level in the warehouse, you start off as Mr Orange joining the crew and Joe and the gang going through some training missions on how to shoot, take people hostage and negotiate with. I thought 'great start'. Next it was a driving mission where you have to basically get from A to B without damaging your car too much and avoid the cops or shoot them off the road. This was quite mundane, boring and too easy but I thought never mind it's bound to heat up now because the next chapters was about each character and the heist and subsequent escapes. Basically,I found that if you take a hostage, hit them and tell cops to drop guns and face wall you can breeze through each level easily enough just swapping hostages as you go through so they have more health.OK, so I did this for the first couple of levels and got bored so I decided on wreaking havoc and just just shooting anyone without any hostage taking....This was ok for a while but I found if you are using cover then you can pick the cops off easily still. You get limited ammo but there's that much left by surrendered or dead cops that it never becomes an issue. There is a nice little touch where if you shoot enough people then your adrenaline shoots up and you can use a 'bullet festival' which each player has a signature move. If anyone has played red dead revolver or max payne you will see the similarity. You press the button when meter is full then the character goes into slow mo with the screen going black and white. you then get 5 seconds of slow mo where you pick your shots against multiple targets. At the end of the 5 seconds the screen returns to colour and you see a slow mo 'bullet time' with your shots hitting their targets and blood spraying everywhere. Nice touch but after a few times of doing that it's just like de-ja-vu. As I said earlier the chapters follow each characters escape so it will go with one character escaping through the streets, next a car escape scene, then another charcter escapes on foot, then another car scene, on foot, on car,on foot, and so on.... Each level plays exactly the same with just different scenery with the on foot levels quite linear. The best part of the game is the super sounds of the seventies soundtrack and the ability to pick your songs on the car radio. I really wished I could've given this a rating to match the movie but it fell so far short it was a crime in itself. Be warned, if you love the film you will feel you have to get this game to see for yourself....don't make my mistake.

The seller musicmagpie described the used condition as “very good” however when it arrived the disc had a big scratch on it and has failed to load several times. When it works the game is actually quite good, especially if you liked the movie, not as good as GTA though.

Firstly i was surprised that a film like Reservoir Dogs could be turned into a game, being what I consider quite dialogue driven, I knew the game could not capture what made the film so brilliant, but being the massive Tarantino fan I am I felt obliged to investigate. The main plot, characters , dialogue , k billy's super sounds and Michael Madsen are all there, thats as far as the similarities go. The game loses all the essence of the film , as could be predicted, however what has been made is a generally good shooter with some entertaining driving sequences. All characters are playable apart from Joe cabot, the characters have been made to look and sound quite similar to the actors (with the exception of mr Brown , who does not look or sound anything like Mr Tarantino), with only Madsen taking up his original role. The levels are supposed to show what you did not see in the movie , while running around taking hostages and shooting ten bells out of any living thing is fun, I do not think it is what Tarantino would of had his characters doing.
Overall this is a reasonable game, that could have been better if it stuck more closley to the film.

I bought this game two days ago and i have completed it. It took about 3 hours approx which makes me think i wasted my money. The game was really good but if you get addicted to it you will finish it in one session. I would just rent this game out if I were you
