Product Description

Review

There are excellent links to serious case reviews, policy and legislation which helps the reader transfer what they read into their workplace. This is an excellent up-to-date book which would be very suitable for social work students as well as social workers undertaking their assessed year in practice. (Hayley Palfreyman 2014-05-15)

Format: Paperback
This book puts a more positive spin on being a social worker. Many of these types of books see social work as a struggle to be survived - this is more about thriving. The links to the new professional capabilities will be invaluable for students, NQSW and those starting their ASYE. It could also be useful for more experienced social workers to help with mapping and evidencing their CPD. It has been written at a changing time for social work and has been written from the practice perspective with links to theory rather than the purely academic. This makes the book both very readable and very informative.

This book has been written primarily for student or newly qualified social workers but also has a broader reach to those working with children and families who wish to understand their colleagues roles, for example, those working in fostering & adoption. It is clear, consise and informative, and seemlessly combines both theory and practice in a manageable way. Points throughout the book serve to remind the reader of the importance of reflection, and help to bring into sharp focus the issues and dilemma's of practice which we deal with everyday.

An excellent book that covers succinctly the main areas for consideration when working with children and families. It is written without too much jargon making it an easy read for students such as myself but would also be a good point of reference for newly qualified social work practitioners.
