HASH(0x857cbbdc) out of 5 stars A Wonderful Selection of Popular Mainstream Edo Works 13 Nov. 2014
By Sye Sye - Published on
Format: Paperback
The Japanese have always had a great sense and culture of humour and these pieces of writing and illustration from popular culture during Edo times is a treasure box to dip in. As a non-academic reader I've enjoyed these tales as I've enjoyed Shank's Mare, Ihara Saikaku, or Shigeru Mizuki mangas. I have kept it beside my chair or bedside and always find an enjoyable piece. A bonus is while the page count is high, it is an easy paperback to read comfortably.

University of Hawaii Press have published a lot of gems; Great Fool (Ryokan), Tales of Ise, Remembering Aizu, Japanese Gothic Tales and Three Dimensional Reading to name a few. Search their catalogue!
