**MISLEADING product images on Amazon UK** USB Dock NOT included
Bought this for my partner's new Windows 7 x64bit PC. Could have bought *any* USB wifi adapter but bought this one because the product images clearly show an included USB cradle on an extension lead that is included with the Antenna to enable it to be lifted up into the clear and get a better signal.Opened the box to find that the Edimax EW-7711UAN 150Mbps Wireless 802.11n High Gain 3dBi USB Adapter now ONLY contains a short 5" USB to USB lead (stiff in construction) which allows the Antenna to be mounted out from the case but **NOT the USB cradle** Sorry Amazon but this is MISLEADING ADVERTISING.The adapter works but would probably get a better signal if I could get it off the floor (which is why I chose this one with the extendable dock!!).DO NOT BUY if you need the USB dock.

Important: this product works with your airport off or your wireless built in off.

What a great product, bargain , reliable , great range , im ordering another one just in case.
i use this on my macbook air ,because in my place of work i have some concrete walls than doenst let the wireless go through.
the solucion is to use a 5 metres usb cable and a wireless dongle and stick it in the right place.

To the macbook air users using usb hub , dont worry.... this device power consumption is very low ,so that means will work with usb hub with no power ,that means more devices connected.

This device has a great range i tested in my house and i found so many wireless networks that i didnt know they exist,

For mac users like me it will work out of the box , just install the ralink software 10.5 ,will work on leopard 10.5 and 10.6.2
The software is very easy to use ,very fast , no crashing , information about the speed and range etc, it is just perfect.

    Edimax is selling a bargain

ps: get way from wireless devices from ebay, they are expensive shipping take ages, and sometimes with drivers so old that will not work in your recent operative system

shipping: arrive one day earlyer to portugal fantastic.

I bought this dongle as I use my laptop in my bedroom and living in a large stone bungalow the signal has to travel over forty feet through stone and breezeblock. I am no expert but usually manage with software and attachments, and reading the reviews I just plugged it in - and sure enough Windows automatically recognised it and installed drivers, but as I use a MAC/physical address filter on my wireless router I could not connect to the router. I did not realise this little dongle has its own physical address. Eventually, I used the supplied CD, but the installation wizard on the CD did not help, but the there is a very detailed manual and when I found the physical address of the dongle and was able to enter it into the wireless router I thought all my problems were over, but no even when I had done all this and the router recognised the dongle, and it showed I was connected to the Internet, I still had no joy. Then I discovered from the Plusnet website (my ISP) that it you have switched off your router, the telephone exchange may reduce the Broadband speed and it can take up to three days to get it back to what it was. Actually, after a few hours there was a marked improvement. I should also add that along the way, I noticed you may experience problems sorting out the security issues if your router is secure, depending on the system used. Finally, I find this dongle is a booster, used with the wireless device on the laptop I do better than using either alone. So, there you are for the money, a marvellous little device, but if you have a secure network (and a MAC filter) it may require a little patience, AND THE CD SUPPLIED. Undoubtedly a five star product, it will not work miracles, but it does what it says on the box.

When we changed internet provider from ADSL to fibre-optic cable we had to put the router in a different room. It was not feasible to have wires running up to the study - unless I was trying to recreate the rigging from HMS Victory - so wireless was the only option for me. I have had Edimax products before and find them to work very well.

    Pros:

    * This little device is easy to install in Windows 7 64bit (I didn't use the driver CD) and worked straight away.
    * The high gain antenna means that there is almost never signal drop out as the connection is fast and stable and the connection shows 150mbs all of the time.
    * The antenna is rotatable and works fine plugged into a USB extension cable.
    * With the correct driver software it doesn't affect my ping in games (compared to a wired connection).

    Cons:
    * The included USB extension cable is hilariously short - 5cm! I had to use a spare cable I had from another dongle.
    * You have to find the best driver software to avoid lag in games (not an issue for non-gamers).

    Others:
    * I deducted 1 star as I did find I had lag every 60 seconds when playing games. This is due to windows looking for other wireless networks and is a problem I have had to fix with every wireless dongle with every Windows since XP so is not uncommon to gamers. To fix this simply look on the internet for Ralink 3070 drivers (they make the bits inside the dongle) and use their software instead. You might need to go into device manager to make sure it uses Ralink instead of Microsoft versions of the drivers. This completely fixed the lag bursts. It is disappointing that this problem still exists with Windows.

On the whole I am very happy with this product. I don't notice that I'm on wireless and it was very cheap. Once the correct drivers are installed it works fine.

I bought this to replace a Linksys wireless G pci card that couldn't seem to keep a steady connection with my school's wifi. I was initially a little surprised when I opened the box and saw how tiny the Edimax receiver was compared to my Linksys, but it actually maintains a stable and strong connection to my school's wifi.

It works right out of the box with Windows 7 64 bit. Windows auto installed the drivers and Windows update had a driver update as well once I got back online. Very pleased with this purchase. Really can't go wrong for the price.

Edit: After using this for a number of months, I have found the device to be horribly unstable. It shows higher speeds than actual and has huge amounts of packet loss. Have since retired this to the bin.
