First - compliments to Shop4USB on quick and efficient order processing and delivery.

This is a good product - very flexible and configurable as a wireless device. Edimax is a less-well-known brand, but they have loads of products.
Small and neat and white - a pleasant change from the usual black.
I bought this to replace a BT Home Hub 2.0 that was being used as a wireless access point where the in-built 4-port 10/100 switch was giving under 10mbps throughput on the home network.

The Edimax box is about a third the price of more well-known brands, provides very good functionality, and took under 5 minutes to configure and get into a working state as a standard AP.
Another 5 minutes to find, download and install the latest firmware taking it to 1.07 from the as-supplied 1.03
All in all I'm very happy with the purchase - initial concerns about whether the low price would imply poor design or performance seem unfounded.
Only a couple of adverse comments:
The device has no logs facility - not a major omission, but something that can be useful and is almost standard.
The management interface has no 'Logout' facility to erase the security token in the browser, the browser must be closed to log out.

** Addendum as of 24Nov11 - found a technical problem **
For non-technical - if you have streaming media services on your home network that rely on UPnP as most do, the EW-7228 device does not fully support them.

For those techies amongst us:
Discovered that the LAN ports do not fully support the UPnP protocol - so media players on both wired and wireless clients (eg Windows media player, XBMC on Windows 7, Android phones) cannot find streaming media sources on the home network.
Edimax tech support are being quite responsive, have supplied a beta version of updated firmware that has fixed the wireless clients, but not yet for wired clients. The switch ports are not forwarding the multicast and broadcast traffic like a layer-2 switch should.
So my Windows 7 PC can no longer see my NAS box and other streaming services for videos, pictures and music.
I believe this will be fixed when Edimax properly understand the issue and update the firmware.

** Addendum as of 06Dec11 **
Edimax developers have confirmed that the design of the EW-7228 does not support the UPnP protocol, and a firmware update to fix this is unlikely.
This is quite a serious weakness these days due to the common use of streaming media on home networks.
If you connect your PCs or NAS box or UPnP-enabled TV via the LAN ports on the EW-7228, streaming of video, music and pictures will likely not work.

As the title suggests it does everything I needed it to do. Using it in my garden office to extend the wifi signal. I am using this with Devolo dLAN 200 to deliver the broadband signal and the edimax then creates a Wi-Fi network in my office so I can connect all my devices.
I certainly agree with the previous reviewers on clarity of the manual and set up instructions - far from straightforward, in fact they make you doubt what you are doing rather than explain how to connect it. The supplied CD would not detect the edimax at all even when connected to the PC with an ethernet cable so that was the first hurdle. However I have connected everything and set up based on past experience of similar products and after some time it just started to work - it created a WiFi network an my PC just connected to it, never asking for any passwords or pas codes. When i try to connect any other devices it does ask for a pass code, just not on the main PC (bear in mind i did not use any software, so it is a little bit of mystery how it works, but it does).
All in all, except the poor manual and software which did not work, this works excellent. i have had it for a few months now and never had any issues - have multiple devices connected to it - PC, ipad, mobile and an IP phone, and all work great, and it was very reasonable priced.

I wanted this as both a wireless access point, so I could connect some laptops to my network via WiFi and a 2-port router to connect a PC and a TV to my LAN via hard wired Ethernet cables. Setup was easy enough and at first all seemed well (apart from 1 laptop that would connect but would not pass data). The wireless access point worked for a week without any problems. I then connected the network devices via the built-in router - this is when problems started. Worked OK for a day but the next morning no WiFi access, no connection via the LAN and I was unable to access the built-in web-server. Only fixed by power re-boot. I've been testing for 3 days and the results are the same - OK after reboot for the day but next morning dead. It does have a "Green WLAN" function - switches to "standby" when no WiFi activity detected - I suspect it doesn't switch back on again properly. No way to disable this function. Had to return for refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great signal strength and easy to install.
Reviewed in the United States on 10 June 2021
This wifi booster is well made in rugged plastic. It's easy to install and mounts to the ceiling, wall, or attic floor joists. We used 3 of them to improve the signal strength. One in an attic , one in the garage to cover the automatic generator in the backyard, and one on the pantry ceiling. Each device carries a full-strength signal making all our wifi devices work at peak performance. We probably could have gotten by with only two but I doubt we would have gotten the excellent performance. I did not have to consult their support so I cant make a comment on that. Installation was straightforward right out of the box. They are just a bit bigger in circumference than a smoke alarm but flatter. They look good on ceilings, but do emit a blue light.

1.0 out of 5 stars Der Edimax-AP hat sich bei der weitergehenden Konfiguration als eine Katastrophe entpuppt
Reviewed in Germany on 25 June 2018
Style Name: AC1200 3 x 3 Wall MountVerified Purchase
