My main issue with the book is the rather disjointed feeling formatting. It loosely follows a chronological order, but I really had difficulty reading it from start to finish. It's a great coffee table book - the occasional leaf through will throw up some nugget of information or classic picture that will really astound me, but I really couldn't just sit down and go through it cover to cover.
If you're looking for the most complete record of the worlds greatest cyclist - this is it. I'd still buy it again (it was a birthday present for my father which I have since 'borrowed').
The book never wears rose-tinted glasses. The darker areas of Merckx's career are treated frankly; and the interviews don't pull punches.
A quick word too for the translation - by Steve Hawkins - which has produced a very readable book, and manages to give the impression that the original was written in English, a very good sign.
