The unit is lightweight, slim and does its job in terms of dehumidifying. Build quality feels somewhat flimsy. As others have mentioned there is an unpleasant odor that apparently reduces with use. I cannot confirm this as I returned mine within 48hrs. The blue light on the unit is quite bright and as others have mentioned may prove an issue if used in a bedroom. On the subject of noise which is a subjective area I felt this was quite noisy even in low power mode. This brings me to my main issue which is that the noise is continuous when on. It does not go into standby when reaching the correct humidity. By standby I mean falling silent as some other models do. The description states that it toggles between various modes including "standby".

What it fails to state in the description is that the unit will go into "fan only" mode once the required humidity level has been reached to permanently monitor the humidity level. From a customer standpoint the unit is always running with the same level of noise as in low power mode. This is reduced power in similar way to economy mode but NOT standby. Ecoair have confirmed this is by design - "Once the humidity is achieved the unit will stop dehumidifying, BUT the fan will stay on to move the air for an accurate reading of your humidity".

There is NO mention of the word "standby" in the manual so why does the description make reference to it? Other retailers including large high street and supermarket retailers who sell this model do NOT make this claim.

Finally, Please also factor in the longer term reliability surrounding these dehumidifiers. The reliability issues particularly with the heating element start to appear around the 1 year mark depending on use/environment.

Not a cheap purchase this one but it was bought to sort out a damp problem in an upstairs bedroom. At the start of the autumn in 2013 I noticed we were having green mould appearing in the upstairs back bedroom. This room is above a kitchen and has 3 external walls, so it gets a lot of moisture from the kitchen, and it gets cold, hence the damp. I started leaving a couple of windows open but that didn't really do much. My father-in-law very kindly added more insulation to the attic above the bedroom which improved the problem, but didn't cure it. So I took the hit and bought this de-humidifier. I didn't have much faith in any dehumidifier to be honest, but it arrived and I plugged it in next to the damp patch in the corner of the bedroom. I set it to the automatic setting (starts off on high) and after a couple of hours the unit was nearly full of water. I emptied the tank and put it on again. This cycle happened for about 2 weeks until the unit clicked onto the lower setting, and the humidity meter that I had bought on Amazon to go with it, showed the humidity at less than 55%. I was extremely pleased with the unit as it had done its job and now the mould has disappeared. I still turn the unit on every morning for 2 hours, but that's all it needs as the attic insulation has kept the room a lot warmer, and the kitchen extractor fan is used every time we cook.

Bought this mainly based on the other reviews. Glad I did. A superb piece of kit Installed it on the landing of our 4 bed house on the Sunday and on Tuesday morning had to empty the tank. This was running on automatic from around 8am till 9pm. Now, another week on and humidity is down to 48% and stable. The instruction book has a very handy section which explains about why we need to have a certain amount of humidity in the air. As with comments from other reviewers, it works best if you leave your internal doors open; moisture will migrate naturally from any room towards the machine. I am so impressed with this device I bought another for our caravan, which after being closed for the winter had mould growing in places when we went to open up. I left this one on the kitchen worktop on automatic constantly while we weren't there draining through the supplied pipe into the sink. When we went the following week to check on it, the difference in the air was amazing. The mould had all but disappeared, and the air felt, well, dry! Very impressed with this machine, highly recommended.

Thank goodness for Amazon's returns policy. Mine went back in about 48 hours.

The worst thing: the smell of chemicals left over from manufacturing. Our air purifier (Blueair 280i) began reporting extremely high pollutant levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds) when we got this. They stopped when we turned this unit off. The model we replaced it with cost far less and did not cause a spike in VOCs: Trotec Dehumidifier TTK 69 E (max. 20 litres/day). Two weeks later the Trotec is working really well and looking very sleek.

This unit looks cheap, but costs a lot. It has a bright LED behind the blue panel, which would need to be covered at night, making it look even worse. It removes water from the air about half as quickly as our replacement and stores only 2L of water (the new one stores 4L). The replacement also looks as though it was designed by a talented product designer. I am happy to have the Trotec in my hallway, rather than considering how best I can hide it from sight.

So, this thing looks like junk, performs poorly compared to the competition and made my throat raw with the smell of chemicals left over from manufacturing which it pumped out. Its replacement performs better in every way and looks far better. I bought this unit because of the number of high rated reviews even though I thought it looked a bit second-rate. Having now swapped to a different product, I can very confidently say this does not deserve the good reviews when compared against cheaper rivals. Yes, it works, but that's the only positive thing I can say about it. Don't buy this. You can get something much better for less. If that isn't good news, I don't know what is.
