This is the sixth book in the "Jack Reacher" series that I've read and unfortunately , for me at least , the worst. I don't mean it's terrible it's just not up the usual high standard, At the start it's gripping with the threat of a possible assassination attempt on the nominated Vice-President but towards the end the reason for that attempted outrage is explained and you had no way of predicting that explanation also Jack seems to have lost some of his invincibilty and perception in this episode . In the previous books when you had the "reveal" there was , at least , the possibility of back tracking to find the hidden clues. It's a pity there wasn't that luxury in this case, that said it's still a good read but not his best, I hope when book 7 arrives it'll be more satisfying than this one. So, to sum up , in the words of my old school teacher "could do better" !!!

In this novel, Jack Reacher takes on his biggest challenge yet when he is called in to protect the Vice President elect from a mysterious death threat.

I started this book wondering whether Child had jumped the shark - why do authors feel they can only get readers by giving their characters figures of national importance to interact with? Clancy did it with his Ryan novels and now Child is too - the previous book was just as good focussing on a small family in the south.

As it is however this book moved beyond that feeling once things got going. Reacher's character becomes more three dimensional than ever before and a lot of the narrative is more about him and his relationships than it ever is about the politician. The story moves at a good pace, and there was only one moment where there was a clue so obvious it broke the fourth wall.

I thought at the start that I was starting to drift away from Reacher's adventures but Child has proved that he's growing as an author and able to develop his character into something more than a moral killer. I'm looking forward to more.

Secret Service agent who makes a highly unusual request. “I want to hire you to assassinate the Vice President of the United States,”

Intrigue is the order to find the why, what and who is behind it all.

Good story.
Jack is dragged into anothers persons troubles and sets things right.

Twists and turns with Reachers logic detective work.

This book kept me enthralled throughout, I didn't want to go to sleep. The numerous sub-plots, twist and turns and the "are they the baddie or not" scenarios, were superb. The best so far!

Without Fail is another great read from Lee Child. An interesting mix of characters, a good few twists and turns with much of the same formula of the previous books. If you've enjoyed the other Reacher books then you'll enjoy this.

Keeps the interest level high, almost all through with enough unexpected turn of events. The climax is well drawn out and doesn't feel hurried. Though the central character could have done with less of explanations at the end; felt a bit of spoon feeding. Better left unexplained than I-told-you-so.
