All my friends are totally amazed and frankly dumbfounded. Nobody can believe it..most shocked and delighted was my husband ......Well and me too. As I look back , I cannot believe how addicted I was and how miserable I felt.
The book first of all helps you understand how alcohol has ensared you .Then dispeling many misconceptions about how much you love having alcohol in your life, it makes the idea of drinking less and less attractive. It gives such easy guidelines to follow and also prepares you for your final drink. Of course it is frightening to think of your "best friend" not being there..but as you read on , the book takes the fear away and gives you s sense of insight and courage to let go of it. I know now it never was a friend!
I feel liberated. My social life has improved .If you have any longing to be free of the guilt and emptiness that drinking burdens you with, then give this book a go. I wish I had read it years ago
This book is amazing... I had been a heavy drinker for 25 years or there abouts..Read more ›
I'm nearly 38 and had been drinking since the age of 16. I've more or less always drunk more than I probably should to varying degrees. In your youth you can get away with this to a certain extent. I went from a very fit guy in my mid 20s to a not so healthy guy in my late 30s. The past 2 years my levels of drinking got far worse. Hardly a day went by where I didn't have at least 2 drinks - some days a lot more. I tried to cut down - I even managed to stop for a whole month - of course the following month I drank more than ever.
I've only stopped drinking for 3 weeks - I haven't had any major withdrawal symptoms - except for experiencing the odd urge to have a drink. Perhaps the only part of Allen Carr's message I might disagree slightly with it is now and then you might need just a bit of willpower to resist that little demon but so far these 3 weeks I've found it easier than the time when I quit smoking 6 years ago.
I now view my life without alcohol as an adventure not as something to be dreaded.
This book requires no will power to enable the process and can be read at your own pace.... reflect on each chapter as you go. It's clearly written and easy to read and understand. Written by an author who has obviously had an alcohol problem it makes the content strike a chord with your own circumstances.
At over 50 years old and after more than 30 years of drinking alchohol to varying degrees this book made it easy for me to stop drinking alcohol all together. Took me 7 days to read the book and before the last page I was comfortable to stop drinking despite temptations at hand. It has already paid for itself many times over.
It really is that easy - the nights now bring better sleep, I awake refreshed and my days are fuller and so much more enjoyable and satisfying. My mind is sharp and the true me has been liberated. Living again and loving it. Priceless.

I have to say that this is a fascinating book. There is a lot of truth and insight in it. It's also riddled with non sequiturs. Much of it hangs frustratingly on definition. Read morePublished 8 months ago by Miles Thomas
