This is a great selection of short stories of the life of a river pilot on the Mersey. Having lived in Merseyside all of my life I am familiar with all of the locations mentioned which is an advantage when reading the book. I particularly liked the anecdote about the French Navy Captain and the tugs and the enlightenment of the Royal Navy sub captain was a delight. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the life and times of the Port of Liverpool.
