As well as having a Calendar of Earth Prayers at the back, which includes fixed days and moveable days, such as 4th June's Rosalia DAy (Ancient Festival of Roses) and Father's Day, which is more fluid within the month of June.
These features, and the index of first lines, make it easy to find the right poem for the right occasion.
But it's not all about the frontmatter and endmatter! The poems are well chosen and will always provide food for thought, or delight, when the book is sampled at random. It's also introduced me, a UK reader, to poets I had not encountered before, such as Wendell Berry, the Kentucky farmer-poet. The format of the book is square rather than rectangular, which is oddly satifsying, and chunky too at 450 pages.
The only fault I can find is that the poems are not titled. Presumably this did not fit the design and trim size, but I do find it annoying at times.
Buy this book if you, or a friend, loves poetry. You don't even need to love the earth, but it will help! It's almost the best tenner I've ever spent.
it.Ifelt it was something to connect with. There is a valuable message in this book about we are so connected to and dependant
on this connection.
