I've been waiting for this album for what seems like forever. Was it worth the wait? You betcha!
Everything about this album screams Deep Purple MKIII. The interplay of guitar( Michael Amott) and keyboards (Per Wiberg) is reminicent of Lord and Blackmore and close your eyes and vocalist Apollo Papathanasio could be mistaken for early Coverdale. Sharlee D'Angelo (bass) and Ludwig Witt (drums) are a fine engine room that allow Amott and Wiberg to play off of each other far more than they have on previous albums. This is not to say that Spiritual Beggars are Deep Purple copyists or should be seen as a ripping off the MK III sound,no the band stamp their own personalities all over this album.Amott's guitar solo's are more blues based in structure than Blackmore's more neo-classical style. and Wilberg's keyboards have a more prog influenced edge than Lord's more jazzy, boogie woogie feel.
For me this the best album of their career so far!
P.S. If you get the limited edition you get a disc of the album Back To Live-Loud Park 2010 which was only released in Japan prior to this.Well worth the extra few pence!

What is in the water in Sweden? (Fish wee and pine needles - ed.) But the amount of quality music emanating from this country is astounding especially as there are only about 10 different musicians playing in about 50 quite different bands!

I don't think you can go too far wrong with any of the Beggar's releases but this ramps things up to a new spiritual level. If you think that the pinnacle of Hard ROCKING music was the mid 70s then this is the baby for you. Like a Turbocharged METALISED Deep Purple MkIII with nods to MkIV Purple.
Plenty of true RIFFAGE from Mr Amott and Mr Wiberg interjects great Hammond SLABS and is that a Fakeotron I hear?

One of the better releases to hit my DEATH DECK this year. If only I'd shelled out for the Limited edition.

For anybody with an interest in ROCK this is a BUY! Tell 'em pesto sent you.

It sometimes becomes the case that so-called ‘side projects’ often become as important, if not more so, to those involved as their supposed main venture. Just look at Tobias Sammett and his ‘resurrection’ of Avantasia for example… and the case of two projects occupying as much time as each other could also be argued for Spiritual Beggars – started by Michael Amott after he left Carcass back in 1993, the band’s career has run very much in tandem with that of Arch Enemy for the past 17 years or so… to the extent that both acts have now released eight albums apiece, and on more or less alternating timescales.

From the first till the last song, every number is very good.
The combination of singing, guitar and organ makes this music great.
This edition comes with an extra live CD, which is also great
The album is a must have for every rocker!
