Product Description

Review

the extracts are sufficiently numerous and full to give the authentic flavour of Tertullian or Origen or Irenaeus or Cyprian. Notes are provided where needed, and the introductions are full and up to date (Guardian)

From the Back Cover

The writings of Fathers of the early Church are of particular importance to anyone who wishes to understand Christian doctrine. This book illustrates the process of development in Christian thought, life, and worship during the period which culminated in the acceptance of the Christian faith by the Emperor Constantine, and the meeting of the Council of Nicaea in AD 325.

Format: Paperback
Quite simply, a superb collection of theological texts, sorted by author (basically up to Athanasius) and topic - Christ, Holy Spirit etc. Introduction is good, and so are (brief) notes. An invaluable theological taster. Should be bought!

An interesting and well laid out introduction to the early writers of Christian history. It shows how the early Church fathers taught the basic Christian truths by topic as well as by person.
