I purchased this product after seeing it in the paper, I suffer with the over production of cerumen and regularly have to have my ears syringed as they get blocked around twice a year, I used to use the doctors but found a good home solution that has worked well but less of that and more of this.
The Earigate product has a rather unique nozzle that fits into the ear and irrigates using a backward flow for the safe irrigation of ears, the bottle suggests regular use 2-3 times a week. It is better than the Audiclean product in my opinion as it penetrates deeper into the ear canal and does produce results as I could see visible flakes of wax coming out.
However these are a few problems, this being the reason for my low star rating as there are better and more affordable solutions.
1. irrigation of the ear stimulates the hairs in the inner ear, this produces more wax - so regularly syringing your ear with this product 2-3 times a week is a bad idea, the best solution is to irrigate your ears only when you have a blockage as the wax in your ear is there to protect against foreign objects, fungi and bacteria and does a very good job of that most of the time.
2. As it is a pressurized can it cannot be refilled, if you irrigate with this product 2-3 times a week it will not last the month, so a near monthly spend of £9.00 per month for ear cleansing is not something I need to pay for.
3. If you have an ear wax blockage, this will not do anything to remove it - even if you soften the wax a few days prior to irrigating with this product as it does not have required pressure to dislodge hardened wax.
4. The product I use twice yearly to remove ear wax blockages, and only costs £6.49 is the Aculife Ear wax Removal syringe, it is refillable, re-useable, Safe and very effective for both ear irrigation and ear wax blockage removal, there is also another product called Kyrosol which uses the same tip and comes with Glycerin pipettes that work really well in less than 30 minutes costing £11.99, Kyrosol contains 10 glycerin pipettes that represent 5 years of treatment for me.
Both the Aculife and Kyrsol kits do a much better job than Earigate and represent better value for money.
I suggest using this only when your ear is not blocked with ear wax as this would do nothing for you, its meant to reduce or stop the need for syringing only, so I suggest once your ears are all clean and fresh from a syringe method by your doctor or nurse then use this as stated 2-3 times a week and it should keep it away from syringing for life, I'll preferably use a little olive oil once my ears are 100% not blocked by ear wax. Consult your doctor first and foremost before using anything on your body especially sensitive areas like ears and nose. I gave it 3 stars for being unique and you can use it easy in the shower, they should be safe as it splashes backwards the liquid, I pushed the nozzle as far as It would allow in my ear and I held the top part of my ear up to straighten the passageway spray for 1 second liquid will squirt out so I would recommend using it in the shower. It wasn't perfect for me but that's because my ears are more hard blocked with wax and my hearing is numb looks like I'm going to have my first ever syringing.
I received this item today, and was looking forward to using it.
Unfortunately, it is not particularly useful!
The idea is simple and very intuitive - you insert the nozzle into your ear, and then press the button. The nozzle is designed such that, rather than spraying forward (and potentially damaging your ear) it sprays backwards and out of your ear - and thus, removes any ear wax with it.
The jet of liquid that sprays out is very powerful, and will get you (and anything near your ear) wet. The box states that this liquid isn't water, but some exotic mix of water + other things.
The problem is that the nozzle is not particularly long - and doesn't really go into your ear. Its difficult to get it in the right place to actually remove any wax (at least for me that was the case). I did not manage to use it successfully - I just got wet every time.
This is an expensive accessory that is useless! Do not buy this, it is a waste of time and money! (and you will get wet)
