- Ultrasonic HC-SR04 Distance Measuring Transducer Sensor Compatible with Arduino
- HC-SR04 consists of ultrasonic transmitter, receiver, and control circuit. When trigged it sends out a series of 40KHz ultrasonic pulses and receives echo from an object. The distance between the unit and the object is calculated by measuring the traveling time of sound and output it as the width of a TTL pulse.
- Power supply: 5V DC; quiescent current: less than 2mA; effectual angle: less than 15°; distance: 3cm~450cm; resolution: 0.3 cm
- Package Content: 5pcs HC-SR04 with 10 pcs female to male dupont cable

How did we get started?
Chris, the founder of ELEGOO, found out that most enterprises in the STEM industry focused on open-source electronics hardware and did not have the tools to create a complete product by combining electronic hardware and structural shells.
What makes our products unique?
We have excellent R&D teams, constantly upgrading and improving products, and after-sales service teams for quick support
What product are we creating?
100% compatible with Arduino, ELEGOO's kits are best-practice for beginners with no appropriate technical tools to learn about electronics.
Product Description
Elegoo HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Sensor is a device that can measure the distance to an object by using sound waves. It measures distance by sending out a sound wave at a specific frequency and listening for that sound wave to bounce back. By recording the elapsed time between the sound wave being generated and the sound wave bouncing back, it is possible to calculate the distance between the sonar sensor and the object.
Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04 is great for all kind of projects that need distance measurements, avoiding obstacles as examples. HC-SR04 provides 2cm-300cm non-contact measurement function, the ranging accuracy can reach to 3mm. The modules include ultrasonic transmitters, receiver and control circuit.
Operatiing Principle of Ultrasonic Sensor
As the name indicates, ultrasonic sensors measure distance by using ultrasonic waves. The sensor head emits an ultrasonic wave and receives the wave reflected back from the target. Ultrasonic Sensors measure the distance to the target by measuring the time between the emission and reception. The distance can be calculated with the following formula: Distance L = 1/2 × T × C where L is the distance, T is the time between the emission and reception, and C is the sonic speed. (The value is multiplied by 1/2 because T is the time for go-and-return distance.)
Ultrasonic Sensor for Project
Elegoo Ultrasonic Sensor HC-SR04 is inexpensive and easy to use since we will be using a Library specifically designed for this sensor, which can be downloaded from elegoo.com.

Customer reviews
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 March 2022Good value for money, especially if you are a 'Prime' member!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 April 2018These sensors are great for distance measuring with many small microcontroller projects. It's worth noting they require 5v (not 3.3v) therefore a bit trickier to use with the likes of ESP8266. It's worth noting it works intermittently with 3.3v but will be unreliable.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 August 2017Works perfectly with a raspberry pi using python but you will have to accept the accuracy limitations which in my care is +/- 3cm's. Depending on the application you may also need a couple of resistors to limit the return voltage, plenty of online resources that explain what and how and cost less than 30p from Maplins.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 January 2022I use these to measure water level. Connected to an Arduino mega. A short 1 line (map) code can convert the distance into a litre measurement. Very handy.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 April 2018Perfect exampe of budget ultrasonic sensors works out the box with many arduino examples
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 May 2017Works really well. Don't expect perfect readings though without some good error correction code in your sketch (for Arduino). Particularly if bouncing off of something like skin instead of a hard material - the signal can become very jittery.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 February 2017Great Value for money, nicely made, so far all three of the units I've wired up have functioned correctly
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 December 2017Must be used with 5V, not 3.3V. As long as they get a 5V supply, they worked correctly the first time, with NewPing library on Arduino or New_Ping on Particle Photon. Accurate to about 1cm.
