Contrary to a previous reviewer, I find it very quiet, probably because I never need to put it on high settings. Today it was 28°C, so pretty hot, and at night setting 1 (out of 10) was almost too strong, even though our bedroom is fairly large (about 6x4m). We have another one of these in my daughter's room, which is very hot and stuffy, but a setting of 3 is more than enough (and the fan is about 3m from her bed, so that she doesn't catch a cold).
At these speeds the fan is extremely quiet, much more so than the previous one. I am a very light sleeper and live in a secluded house with no car noises etc, and the noise of the fan does not bother me. The control sits neatly on top, held by a magnet (little design details like this make a real difference, and this way you know you won't lose the remote!). The shape is nice to look at and easy to store (more so than the circular fans).
In short, it's expensive (by the way, buy it directly from Dyson where it's £299!) but well worth it in my view. Certainly now we don't worry about the heat anymore, and it's much more natural and pleasant than an air conditioner.
