This is without doubt about the most attractive fan on the market with a sleek design, unobtrusive controls at the base, and a smart silver finish. As the strap line for the fan suggests, it's pretty large with a 30cm diameter fan head. So you need to think in advance where it will fit.

As you might expect for a fan at this price it has a number of stand-out features. The speed of the fan is set my turning a small wheel like control. It offers a choice of any speed from minimum to maximum - unlike most fans which have two or three predetermined speed settings. The fan can be set to rotate, which means in this case that from the base the whole fan moves through about 120 degrees. The base also pivots to direct the air flow up or down.

There are one or two downsides. There's the cost! Also, unlike a number of other Dyson fans it has no remote control. This would be a good addition.

If you're thinking of buying a fan in this price point you won't be disappointed in this one - style and function.

Too noisy and too expensive

Just bought one of these very - disappointed. The main problem is the unbearable noise - much louder than a conventional fan and it doesn't perform that much better. Yes, the buffeting is less intense but it is still noticeable and it doesn't cool any better than my old fan.

The only positive thing I can say is that it looks great - but that isn't really the reason you buy a fan. Certainly not worth the money - I will be sending mine back.

Go With The Flow

This was a pretty good buy. This bladeless fan draws in surrounding air, and amplifies it 15 times. The result is a smooth airflow with no choppy, unpleasant buffeting. Because there are no blades or grilles, this fan is easy to clean and has a sleek, modern design. The touch tilt, pivots on its own center of gravity, there is a dimmer switch control, and one touch oscillation.

It does move air much better and quieter than any fan I have ever used (and that is 30+ years of experience). I have been able to cut back the AC use because of this "air multiplier". Perhaps this, over time, will justify the price. However, If it were half the price it would be a dream machine.

How well designed? Lack of development

It looks good. Switched off preferably. If I had realised how noisy it is I would not have bought it. My biggest complaint is actually the poor quality of the development process that you would think went on before the product was released, just by changing the pads on which it is mounted to some rubber I had laying around I reduced the noise level, still far too noisy, but surely with the much vaunted research they should have got right something as simple as this. I also suspect that playing around with sticky pads internally I can get the infuriating resonance down.
However big the development and design team you cannot replace an original and free thinker, that is what dyson needs badly.

Ok, I was a little suspicious about this I'll admit- I used to have a hoover from the same brand and I can only describe is as the ugliest, most badly designed thing I've ever had the misfortune to come across. It was purple and grey mainly and looked like something out of the Red Dwarf props department. A particular feature of note was the way you used to get covered in all the dust you'd just sucked up whilst trying to shake the giant see-through dust collector into a black bin bag.
Anyway, on the the 'air multiplier' which I assume was named by the same people who branded the people on the tills at sainsburys 'checkout captains'. I have the 12" version which a friend gave me theirs, because they said it was utterly useless. It is indeed utterly useless. I thought the whole point in a fan is that it cools you down due to the airflow evaporating your sweat but with this there is no airflow. Well, there is if you put your hand about and inch away from the bottom of the circle. There's a sweet-spot just there where you can cool down one hand, so I guess maybe one star is a little harsh- if you happen to have just one hot hand then this product could be perfect for you. Unfortunately the rest of me gets hot too so I'll be sticking mine on ebay and searching for a normal fan that doesn't look like I've been playing with the the lego quidditch set.
Sticking with the design for a second, this thing is so hideously, knowingly 'designed' that it's lost any vestige of charm or appeal. Fans already have an aesthetic which is functional and quite lovely for being so (if you like that sort of thing) but this thing is horrible and plasticky, it even looks plasticky from a distance which is quite an achievement for something painted silver.
Couple this with the fact that it's actually quite hard to write this review because the fan is so incredibly noisy (think big hairdryer but that doesn't blow any air) because of the way in which dyson has substituted the traditional large slow-moving big blades for very fast spinning small blades hidden inside a separate compartment.

This review might seem a little harsh but I just saw the price of this thing and I'm absolutely flabbergasted that something to pointless and awful could be flogged for such a ridiculously high price. If I could give it minus stars I would.
