This book more than met my expectations. Not only a great read but the author has truly done his homework. A page turner from start to finish. I feel it will appeal to a wide range of ages from early teens through to someone in their nineties. Without giving too much away one of the characters little Georgie is endearing and from the moment he is introduced I couldn’t help but take him into my heart. A thought provoking read on many levels. Don’t let the light die Mr McKenna more of this will be eagerly awaited.
When the author is a good friend, it can make reading their first novel awkward. But in this case, it was not. I loved this book. A total page turner and the characters, words and ideas have stayed with me long after finishing it. I couldn't help thinking of some of my favourite books as I read it - not least Stephen King's 'IT' and William Golding's 'Lord of the Flies'. Wonderful book by a wonderful man.
The Dying Light is a beautiful story set during World War II. I loved every page. My favorite character is Georgie, I loved him since he was introduced. All the characters were so memorable and seemed so real and special in their own way. I was transported to the London of that time. I enjoyed the plot very much, this book is definitely a page-turner. Also, an amazing account of how children cope individually under extreme circumstances. I totally recommend it.
